Smoke rose from the Smouldergate Marsh. The thick swampy air clawed at the lungs of the Skaven and matted their fur as they sloshed around the foetid waters. Patrolling the gate to prevent any who would seek passage towards Barilomm in Chamon. Hissing steam rose from the Warplightning canons as their power cells were charged and the grinding gears of the Ratling guns filled the air. The ratmen were prepared for any attack, which they knew would come someday after the Ogor rampage through Ashenhold. Sure enough through the mire the first signs that the Kruelboyz were approaching sent the mining camp into high alert.
Even prepared, the opening salvo from the beast and man Skewers flew from the reeds towards the assembling Clanrats. Dozens of their number fell leaving the Skaven lines precariously exposed. The Warplock Engineer Tzzasharap looked for his bodyguard seeing it felled frantically fought off the first Guttrippaz as they swiftly pulled themselves from the humid marsh. Across the encampment, the screams of the Skaven and the waaghs of the Kruelboyz echoed as some parts of the line wavered and others held. Bolt rippaz and warp lightning traded across the encampment annihilating Orruk and ratman alike.
At the height of the fighting the Kruelboss Fethrak was advancing on his vile swamp beast was distintigrated by an overloading Warplightning canon sending the surrounding Orruks into disarray. Grey Seer Snivratch revealed his plan now that the Kruelboss was slain, felling a Sludgeraker beast and summoning more bolts of green lightning down on the confused Kruelboyz. The Skaven seeing the battle turn in their favour surged – ratling guns and warp lightning blasting away the now panicking Orruks, as the ratmen chased them into the swamp slaying every single one. Destruction was routed from their attack on the Realmgate this day but with Aqshy firmly in their control, it can only be a matter of time before they try once more.
