Blistivus Rotfinger scurried about his plague den waiting to hear news of the Skaven advance along the Umbral Path. Eventually, a lowly clanrat rushed in to say that Nighthaunt had slain most of the force – Rotfinger screeched in frustration but knew well that the forces of death would not be far away from the Forgotten Forest and it was time to prepare for their arrival.
The Ossiarchs marched into the forest in lock-step, their Hekatos and other commanders leading disciplined ranks of bone constructs into the shadow of the trunks. The Skaven were waiting – their red eyes piercing through the darkness at the advancing undead phalanx. Once they had marched far enough that was when the Skaven sprang their trap. Warp lightning blasting from hidden boughs, and dozens of clanrats scurried down the hills towards the assembled Mortek Guard.
Nadirite blades flashed and the Skaven hordes were held in check, but that was not all the chittering ratmen had planned. From behind the sprawling melee Rotfinger and the other sorcerers of the Skaven began to call upon the winds of magic as well as the power of the Great Horned Rat, a green mist filled the valley path. Suddenly bolts of crackling green lightning smashed into the ranks of the Ossiarchs and that was followed by bone-eating plagues unleashed by the prayers of the Skaven. It still took much time but the horrific magics of the ratmen eventually brought low the forces of Nagash – and the Forgotten Forest remained the den of the ever-multiplying forces of Chaos.
