Deep within the Rusted Woods of Chamon, something was brewing. Outlying villages had reported signs that the rusted trees would weep sap, and there was evidence of animals being found badly mauled. Scouts from the Cities of Sigmar failed to return and so the Stormcast Eternals were rallied to strike at whatever corruption dwelled inside the forest. The clouds gathered over the furthest reaches of the Rusted Woods and with blasts of light the Stormcast rushed into glades and dells. All around them the foetid signs of Nurgle, trees dripping pus and horrible twisted pulsing organic growths covered every surface. At the far end of the glade was a gateway which clearly led into the heart of the Nurgle infestation.
Around every tree, the hulking form of a Blightking stood and the probing assaults of the Stormcast were met with frustration. The brutal melee bringing down many of the brutish warriors of chaos but so too did the bright flashes of lighting as the Stormcast ascended back to Azyr. A glimmer of hope appeared when the eagle eyesight of the Vanguard-Raptors spotted a Nurgle sorcerer chanting spells towards the forces of Order. The bolts of their Longstrike crossbows flew forth ending the vile spellcaster in a burble of curses.
With the Stormcast forces seemingly engaged at every turn it was then that the Plague Lord Grogulus Mirthbelch led his retinue of blightkings straight into the heart of the Stormcast forces. The battle was bloody with many of his finest warriors slain to the light of the tempest. However, at the end of the brutal charge the Stormcast had returned to Azyr and the forest remained under the Grandfather’s blessed care. The surviving warriors of Sigmar returned with dire news that Nurgle would continue to strengthen in the Rusted Woods and a much stronger force would be needed to uproot them.
