Hey Quirk. You're doing well with your Alpha Legionaries, but don't get discouraged! They are amoungst the toughest legions to play, as Mutable Tactics really only gives them the slightest of edges over their Vanilla Legion List counter-parts.

One thing i would recommend is looking into Laern Terminators. At only 3 points more per Legionary, and coming with WS 5 and Stubborn and Volkite Weapons, (plus the super sweet option to buy conversion beamers en mass!) they are amazing additions to any Alpha Legion Army.

Coils is amazing, and is basically the epitome of Alpha Legion utility but its limitations (needing either transports or infiltrate, the extra troop choice, etc) make it really cumbersome to use in anything shy of 2500 -> 3000 points. I'd look into more generic Rights of War such as Pride of the Legion (with those super Awesome Laerns )to get more mileage out of your guys.

Also, As a fellow Son of Alpharius, it behooves me to mention that our Legion really kind of Struggles to preform optimally without the Hydra Himself running around in the list (another reason to play higher than 2000, which really doesn't do justice to Heresy Era gaming IMHO). Its a simple thing, but Giving all of our Legionaries Preferred Enemy (Everything!) Really does help out, especially considering that our Legion traits are a) a downside (martial huburis) and b) a situational upgrade. PE will give your basic Battle Brothers a leg up in a lot of ways. Devastators become more devastating (Ha!) and Rapier batteries become even more nightmarish. Basically anything that isn't a vehicle benefits from simply being in the same Army as the Last Primarch.

Always a pleasure to watch, and just my 2 cents.

Unless i'm mistaken the jet bike didn't have to take a leadership in the Assault Phase after the overwatch. So it should of still got its charge. Pg 57 of the Rulebook.

I feel bad for Quirk. I'm going to be soooo, soooo happy when he gets a win.

Stick at it Quirk, you're just playing the long con like a true alpha legionary by letting them think you're the easy target!

did the jetbikes infiltrate? if so, they couldn't have charged.

Also tyrant siege terminators have a 4+ invul due to being in cataphractii armour.

Nice to see more 30k armies, solar auxilia models look awesome, love the steampunky feel

Dynat should have move down and assaulted the veterans, he's good at shooting and has an extremely powerful phosphex grenade with would have killed a few vets

Hello Quirk! As a prospective Alpha Legion player, I'm saddened by your loss, but don't get yourself discouraged! It's a rewarding army when you start learning their ropes. Just a little thing, I believe you should expend your jetbikes to 6 of them and magnetise the weapons of the two last if you haven't done it already with your existing ones and give them two heavy weapons. Had they got multimeltas, you probably could have done A LOT BETTER at destroying armor. While they can do well in CC against weak units, they are too valuable and have two much firepower to assault stuff particularly when they can overwatch you with an AP2 flamer. I believe that by infiltrating them, you would have ennough movement to have a clear line of sight and then heavily damage the Malchador flametank if not destroying it ouright.

Another cool thing with the Alpha Legion is the power dagger. It's better than a chainsword (strength -1, AP3, rending, specialist weapon), but the great part is that it's only 5pts, can be taken without replacing an existing weapon and it's the cheapest way to get an extra attack with a powerfist, chainfist or lightning claw. Personally, I try to have all my sergeants with one of these weapons and a power dagger. It's 3 attacks base and 4 on the charge. It's not bad for common sergeants. And with artificer armor, they are tough enough to warrant the investment. If you take counter-attack as your mutable tactic, it can be pretty great if you do an Orbital Strike list since you can do a devastating alpha strike and then if the enemy charges, he will be hurt. With Armillus, you get great bonuses from being inside the deployment zone. In this particular case, counter-attack might not be the best since Matt's army was shooty, but against the more close combat army it's nasty.

Otherwise, Luvs2spooge gave some great advices. To expend on the Learneans termies, one of their best aspect is that the sergeant (Harrower)has 3 attacks base instead of the usual 2. So with a chainfist (can be mastercrafter with them) and a power dagger, you get 4 attacks base, 5 on the charge. It's extremely nasty.

Aren't Cataphractii 4+ ? Quirk rolled two 4 there on the save against the D weapon, why didn't he reroll those?
Also that looks like a twinlinked heavy bolter on the Land Raider, and yet I saw no rerolls to hit from it when shooting the second time on the Tarantula.

I think the problem that Quirk is having is that he is constantly playing the same list, or a small variation thereof. This was the most divergent from his other 30k lists and it didn't add much.
For more unsolicited advice, once I had penned that malcador with the Sicaran, I would've used those amazing siege terminators on the veterans.
All that being said, I want to put a wedding dress on Quirk's army and marry it in a church with a nice cake and everything. Soooo pretty.

I am not sure tanks, even super heavy tanks, get to overwatch, unless there's been a change.

matt should have disembarked the centurion out of the back of the rhino, his paragon blade would have made short work of the alpha legionaries
