The lost city of Nulbuark had long remained an illusive shadow looming over the realm-spanning conflicts it had created. But few if any had been to its walls, and those that did never returned. But now the time was right for the forces of Destruction to take their chance and make for the walls of the city and uncover its secrets. As well as discover what happened to the patrols they had sent before. The Ogors of Clawhex the Pestiferous of the Gutrot gang and Appleplex the Furious met beneath the towering defences. Ordering their combined Ironblasters smashed a hole into the city which the larger Ogor forces could then traverse. But they were not the only ones who had been sent to discover what was causing so many scouts never to return.
Holding a goblet of crimson the Vampire Lord Vavdor of Misthaven willed his undead servants forward as he lazed in his encampment within the outer precincts of the city of Nulburak. They had been searching for some vampiric infiltrators as well as whatever evidence the city's mysterious behaviour was caused by. For some weeks now and had seen little to no evidence of their quarry. What was worse he kept losing his minions to whatever lurked within the city – this was a minor inconvenience but one that irked him greatly. But this peace was shattered when the sound of thunder obliterated the city's walls – the Ogors were here, and the undead would meet them. Vavdor could use the distraction and with his unbreaking will ordered the skeletons to form ranks and end this gluttonous mob.
After the breach was made the Ogors stormed through and immediately began searching house to house for whatever trinkets or wealth Nulburak was hiding – but finding little before the undead began to appear at the ends of streets ahead of them. Quickly the parties of Ogors and undead minions engaged one another, fighting running skirmishes until a large melee broke out in a nearby square. A strange shimmer in the air fell almost as soon as the fighting began and Vavdor found his magic severely weakened, he was able to hold his undead army together but little else in direct attacks upon the Ogors. In turn, the Ogors also had difficulty with magics but their fighting prowess did not require a few sparkles – it was raw flesh and power that the Ogors relied upon.
Seeing that the Ogors were not being dissuaded by the lack of magic, Vavdor ordered his grave guard units towards the enemy. The Ogors responded in kind with black powder and cleavers and quickly the elite bodyguard of Vavdor the fearless was nought but bone and dust on the floor. Without his bodyguard to protect him Vavdor felt it expedient to vacate the city and report back to his masters in Misthaven. A simple message but one that could get him killed – “The Ogors have entered Nulburak”. The Ogors set about establishing fortifications and control within the abandoned streets but they were always cautious about what could be lurking further in.
