Deep within the Forgotten Forest the Skaven of Plaguepriest Rotfinger continued to flee and elude the legions of Bonereapers sent to bring them to heel. After far too long eluding the forces of Death, Lady Isadora decided enough was enough and summoned a host of Nighthaunt to cleanse the forest once and for all. But Rotfinger was no fool and knew that Death was sure to be close at hand and laid a trap within an abandoned village deep within those silent trunks. Ystevar the ancient Knight of Shrouds drew his rusted blade and beckoned on the deathly host towards the Skaven settlement.
Rotfinger had commanded his underlings to fill the settlement's structures with explosive traps, as well as to conceal their warp lightning canons within the woods. Waiting patiently for the forces of Death to march in and be caught in a deadly trap. But it was not Bonereapers who marched into camp it was the spectres of the Nighthaunt, emerging from the trees all around. Panic filled the Skaven who looked for the path out of the deadly trap. They tried to fight their way back through the village to safety hoping that the Warp Lightning canons would blast apart the spectres but almost one by one the canons exploded when they attempted to fire incinerating their ratmen crew. The advancing Doomwheels met a similar fate seemingly to collapse as they passed through the lines of ghosts. Rotfinger cursed the magic of Ulgu for interfering with his genius plan!
Gliding into the village and slicing apart Skaven as they fled the Nighthaunt had brought their most terrifying form – the dreaded Black Coach. Seeing such a potent target Rotfinger ordered the remaining canons to bring it down, but the beams of crackling energy just passed harmlessly through its insubstantial sides. The Grey Seer Fizzlesnatch who was commanding the Skaven advanced party obliterated himself from consuming far too much warpstone in a desperate effort to undo the malaise brought on by Ulgu’s magic. Only in the final moments was a Warp Lightning storm forced into the centre of the Nighthaunt lines discorporating dozens of their number – but it was not enough and the Skaven had given into the musk of fear. The village was once again silent and Death had prevailed and the Skaven that survived were nowhere to be found… But they would be plotting their revenge even as they sped away…
