This Event Has Been Cancelled

The Drakenfell System was once a beacon of Imperial industry and devotion, its Hive Cities and vast farmlands fueling the war machine of the Emperor. But now, it is a battleground unlike any before. Tyranids descend in an endless swarm, the dead moon of Requiem bleeds daemonic horrors into reality, and an ancient, unspeakable madness stirs beneath Drakenfell's shattered soil.

Above it all, a world of grotesque biomechanical corruption appears from the void, warping reality and dragging the entire system toward oblivion. Every faction converges upon this doomed sector, each vying for control, survival, or the utter destruction of all who stand before them. The battle for Drakenfell is not just a war—it is a reckoning.

Welcome to our first ever Worldwide Narrative Campaign!  This is an unofficial Warhammer 40k campaign, run by Matthew Glanfield, creator and author of over 60 narrative campaigns over the past decade.

In this special narrative campaign you get to have major influence in the story!  No matter where you are in the world, you can participate in this campaign, whether with others in your area or online through Tabletop Simulator with anybody around the world.

This campaign will run for a total of 18 weeks starting in April 2025 (exact date to be confirmed), for a total of six rounds.

In each round you will be able to play a minimum of one game per battleground, possibly more if there are others who need a game and can't find an opponent.

There are three major factions, splitting all available Warhammer 40k factions in a way that you might not guess.

The Three Factions

Defenders of the Imperium

A fractured coalition of necessity, the Defenders of the Imperium stand as the last barrier against total annihilation. Though Imperial Guard and Adeptus Mechanicus forces are absent, Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, and Custodes lead the charge, bolstered by the unlikeliest of allies—Necrons, Aeldari, Votann, and Tau. These disparate forces share no love for one another, but all recognize the horror of the Flayer Virus and the catastrophic threat posed by the Living Planet. If they fail, Drakenfell will not be the last world to fall.

The Defenders of the Imperium include the following Warhammer 40k factions:

  • All Space Marines (including Grey Knights)
  • Sisters of Battle
  • Adeptus Custodes
  • Imperial Knights
  • Necrons
  • Aeldari
  • Votann
  • Tau

Notably absent are the Imperial Guard and Adeptus Mechanicus.

Chaotic Uprising

Where there is ruin, Chaos thrives. With the Imperium in crisis, the Dark Gods extend their grip upon the Drakenfell System, their servants flocking to claim it in the name of the Great Game. The system's Imperial Guard regiments are no longer unified—some have turned traitor, pledging themselves to Chaos, while others fight amongst themselves, unsure of whom to trust. Orks, drawn by the sheer scale of destruction, revel in the carnage, while the Chaos warbands seek to seize the power bleeding into reality from the Warp incursion on Requiem. If they can take control of the Living Planet and twist it to their will, the system's doom will be absolute.

The Chaotic Uprising includes the following Warhammer 40k factions:

  • All Chaos factions
  • Orks
  • Traitor Guard (Imperial Guard players who want to fight for Chaos)
  • Necron Flayer and Destroyer Cult (Necrons that focus on Destroyers and Flayed Ones)

Tyrannic Invasion

Hive Fleet Nihilus looms over Drakenfell, its hunger endless and all-consuming. But the Tyranids did not arrive alone—long before the fleet descended, the Genestealer Cult of the Ascendant Strand had already spread its influence in the shadows. Across Ashariel and Velos, entire regiments of Imperial Guard and Adeptus Mechanicus were never loyal to the Imperium at all, but instead awaited the day their true masters would arrive. Now, as the Hive Mind tightens its grip, they rise in bloody rebellion, ensuring that when the final battle begins, the Imperium is fighting enemies both within and without.

The Tyrannic Invasion is a combination of the following Warhammer 40k factions:

  • Tyranids
  • Genestealer Cults
  • Infested Guard (Imperial Guard players who want to fight for the Tyranids)
  • Infested Ad Mech
  • Infested Tau

How It Will Work

This entire narrative campaign will be broken up into six rounds.

Each round lasts two weeks, followed by one week off for us to prepare the next round.

In each round:

  • You can play one game in each battleground available to your faction (between 1-3 normally)
  • Each game will typically be from 1,000 to 2,000 points.  The scenarios will each have small modifications for 1000, 1500, and 2000 point games.
    • You and your opponent must agree on the points amount.
    • You are welcome to increase this if you like.
  • You can optionally choose to use the Crusade rules to earn XP and upgrade your units between games
    • This is not mandatory, but if one player is using Crusade rules and the other is not, then the player NOT using Crusade rules receives a bonus CP during their own Command Phase
  • You can play additional games in the same battleground only if you play someone who hasn't played a game yet
    • This will help up with the imbalance in number of players per faction
  • You do NOT have to participate each round if you don't want to
  • You will report your games on our website
    • You will not be able to see everybody's results until the round is fully over

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  How will you keep people from cheating and inputting false results?

A.  First off, hopefully this won't happen too often.  But we realize that it might.

We're hoping that by restricting this to Vault members and those that have paid to enter that we will eliminate the desire to cheat right away.

Also, both players must approve the game before it will count.

In the end we do realize that there might be some false results.  We're hoping that since the large majority of players won't cheat that they won't really influence the end results too much.

Q.  Do I have to play in every round?

A.  Not at all.  The limit will be in how many games you can play.  If you are unable to partipcate in some rounds, no sweat, you can still participate in future rounds.

Q.  What if I don't have any players around me to play against?

A.  We are allowing games on Tabletop Simulator to count as well.  You can go to our Discord server at https://www.miniwargaming.com/worldwide-find-a-game to find other opponents.

Q.  Will you guarantee that I will have an opponent in each round?

A.  No, we cannot.  If you can only play locally against other people, you will need to make sure that there are other players who have registered for this event.  If you are playing online through Tabletop Simulator, we can't guarantee you will be able to find someone to play against.

Q.  If I am a Vault member and cancel, will I be able to continue to participate?

A.  No, you must remain a Vault member during the entire campaign to be able to participate.  If you would rather not have to be a Vault member, then you can purchase a registration key here.

Q.  I want to play for a specific major faction, but my army is listed in another faction.  Can I switch?

A.  No.  Because we are trying to build an immersive story, we have to limit which armies can be in each faction.

Q.  Which Crusade rules can I use?

A.  Any official publication by Games Workshop is fine with us.  We might decide to write our own, but that is as of yet undecided.  If we do create an official one for this campaign, then you will have to use the one we create.
