With a board as open as that and that many points, whoever goes first wins from the alpha strike alone. If you do others games with as many points please, please, please add more terrain that blocks LOS to make the fight more interesting.

I think even if mitch went first he wouldn't have been able to destroy all 3 of those Baneblade variants and still most likely would have lost at least his Brass scorpion, if not the Warhound as well with all those other las cannons in the SM army. They still had shots to spare after taking it out on the top of T1.

I whole-heartedly agree.

These batreps should just say 'Mitch'. No other description is needed.

mitch is clearly a great guy, but the game was pretty underwhelming. More Los blocking terrain please! Seems like steve cheesed a bit with all the lascannons etc??

What mitch says at 2:17:24: What I was thinking the entire time.

Mitch continues to be awesome but this was very much always going to be decided by who went first

Oh wow, poor Mitch and his dice rolls!!

Really enjoyed the battle rep!

Another thing to think about in addition to bringing more LoS blocking terrain is the table size. Shadowswords have ridiculous range so it might not have made a huge difference but I have heard that a good rule is to have at least 1 square foot for every 100 points. Your table should have been roughly double the size which would have made it harder for even most long range things like lascannons to focus down on single enemy targets.

I have to agree with some of the other commenters here.
If you put a Brass Scorpion and a Warhound on the table, just please let one of them at least get one turn.
Stopped watching after the Warhound died top T1, cause those were the reason I started watching this report at all.

It's like Mitch goes out of his way to play the most obscure lists.

The problem isn't the fact that Steve had three anti-super heavy baneblades, but the fact that he used them to take out of the game both the brass scorpion ant the titan on turn 1. Just shoot one or the other and let your opponent use the remaining one on his turn. You are creating a battle report for people to watch and enjoy, you are not trying to win at all cost. When you are filming a batrep of this kind the result is completely secondary.

so need a proper showcase for the heretic army in this, want to see those kitbashes in all their glory

at 29 min the iron clad dreadnought it T8 so wounding on 4's not 3's

Commissar13 (9 days ago): - delete
Thinking it would be more balanced, if the baneblades lacked the Astra Militarum bonuses. Or cap it to one baneblade variant on the table at a time

The Super Heavy Detachment (3-5) get the Regiment bonus.

The Aux Super heavy (1) doesn't

jerdboy46 (9 days ago): - delete
The rule is alittle unclear, but the way the Astra Militarum player plays at my club is that Baneblades always get over-watch due to their ability to shoot even when models are within 1'. I am not personally a big fan of that interpretation, but what does everyone else think?

Kaiien (8 days ago): - delete
don't the rules state if you are in melee that you can't shoot overwatch?
regardless of if you can shoot in the shooting phase or not?

Shooting is so strong.
still pretty much first turn = win

Eddie Spurrell (9 days ago): - delete
From my experience with big point limits like that we change the rules slightly which makes for really balanced games. So here's what we do.

Rounds and Turns combine. Therefore you still determine who's "turn" it is for rule reasons however during each phase each player activates one unit at a time.

So in this example starting with Imperial side they move one model, then Chaos moves a model, repeat until all models have gone.

During shooting phase Steve fires a Baneblade. Then Mitch fires his Titan, then Steve fires his next Baneblade, and so on until no models are left.

Play out the turn like this.. then in Turn 2 it's considered Chaos turn. But both armies go through alternating model for model.

Try it sometime you see it balances 40k and is so much more fun.

the superheavy Guard tanks may charge and/or shoot even when they fall back that turn.

TjCo (9 days ago): - delete
And for balance, you shouldn't have brought Shadowswords. The real baneblade woudn't have been that hard hitting the enemys superheavys.

Wow...what a BS top of T1 that was. Brass Scorpion and Hellhound taken out before they can do anything...might as well not have even brought them. 200 more marauders would have been more effective.

Chainofwolfs (9 days ago): - delete
I agree the alpha strike was a bit much( if not a tad bit hilarious). But as an IG player I am kinda super happy to see how well the BB variants do work! They felt super underwhelming before for the point sink. But 3 might still be a bit much.....

there dice are a little hard to see with the glare, fun game
