Hej Owen, You've got a vote from me to play more different armies! I'm totally on your side, that this way we get to see "more different armies" vs "more different armies" and not only the few that you really know.

For me the battle report was really interesting and entertaining. Especially because I've never seen the Furioso-list.

Keep going!

Often I find cowards on the Internet who use the anonymous nature of a web site to sling around words like "cheater" when no ones around to give them an atomic wedgie. In no way do I think Owen cheats, I think he is human. Those who continue to use that word are ignorant.pointing out a mistake is fine, but don't go calling a mans honor in to question over a game which has rules which are, at best, ambiguous and at worst hypocritical ,sometimes within a single page of the BRB.

Owen I would like to add some support to you. We all make mistakes WE ARE ONLY HUMAN! it is not the end of the world, as you said you are only playing for fun and from a perspective of someone who is getting back into the game I am pleased that you do explain your mistakes as that way I can learn as well. Keep going as every batrep helps me learn the different armies and the game! So chin up guys you all make mistakes don't be so harsh.

I find Owen and Jay's batreps to be the most entertaining on miniwargaming. Everyone makes mistakes and these games are for fun, some people just need to chill out a bit.

Glad to see Owen stand up for himself

as for the cheese army remark - You'd have plenty of players want to play against that list at my club - the Southampton Sluggaz in the UK

Owen, I'm very appreciative of both the quantity and variety of battle reports that you and Jay have been putting out lately. I don't fault you guys at all for getting things wrong (everyone does!), but 'Rules we got Wrong' videos definitely help to straighten things out after the fact. Annotations in the video also help to cut down the comments in the actual video post.

If I could offer a suggestion, instead of randomizing based on ten or twelve armies like you're doing now, maybe split it up into two lists of six options for you, and six for Jay. That way you each might be able to focus on particular armies to learn their specific rules a little better. Or simply have one person play a few games with one army versus other random armies, that way you actually have an opportunity to learn from mistakes (either discovered in-game, or via the comments). You and Jay could each focus on a specific army you're not familiar with to keep up the variety. It might also help for example, if Jay's list had Tau and Guard (which you'd be familiar with) and yours had Grey Knights and Dark Angels (which he'd be familiar with). That way there would be less of a learning curve or opportunity for mistakes to occur for both of you since a player with experience with the army would be at the table.

Keep up the great work though guys. I've been enjoying this series tremendously and do appreciate the variety, since we all learn from it as well.

People are being way too harsh. Your doing a great job Owen. Everyone does a great job. People make mistakes and as long as yo address those mistakes and try not to repeat them again, what's the harm done?
Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing you play more armies and more varied lists.

I can only get to pit my Eldar against the Necrons, and occasionally the Tau. So I definitely want to see batreps featuring other armies and how they function. My friends and I are relatively new to 40K (6 months in), I can't say we've played a mistake free game yet. There's always some small thing we forget. Mistakes happen.

wh40k is for 2 players... Can't just sitting and through all the blame at owen. What did his rivals do? I can justified the Codex errors from owens side (you can easily miss something in the codex rules) but for BRB rules why didn't any of his rivals point the mistake. And why to blame Owen for necron codex mistakes... or w/e his opponents are playing?
p.e. I have pointed out many times that the look out sir rule is played wrong... why the other players didn't do that?

Owen, you have quickly earned a place as my favourite MWG personality. I think it is awesome that you guys try out different armies, although I wish Space Wolves was on your list. I think I've seen one or two Space Wolves BatRep's in the history of MWG.

That said, I also love that you're the "Tau Guy" and I wish you would still do some Tau BatReps from time to time. It is very easy to find BatReps online for Space Marine armies, but more difficult for Tau and I love that I can come to you for that.

Feel no Pain is not a save (based on no saves of any kind against Perils of the Warp but there still is Feel no Pain%uFEFF check FAQ). It can save model but does not prevent extra attacks.

Well done sir, good clarification video and please continue to play lots of different armies and random ones too!

daemonprinceyourself (Over a year ago): - delete
Honestly, by you guys making mistakes and going back to explain those mistakes, it is much easier for others to learn the game. If you just went and played a mistake free game with no explanation of some of the finer details, it would be tough to learn anything from the videos.

I actually really like to watch those Batttle Reports because of the mistakes. When I usually play there are loads of mistakes not because I don%u2019t know the rules, I just forget so many in the heat of the fight, sure you can look them up but honestly it is even referred in the rule book that if you%u2019re not sure and both partys are fine with it just move on. I really hate those games where you have to look up every single rule you%u2019re not sure of because your opponent can%u2019t stand to leave any chance. A fluent game with some mistakes is much more enjoyable, so keep going Owen.

I really know what you mean about past edition rules getting ingrained in the mind. Still sometimes grab dice and on auto-pilot say: "Terminators BS5 hitting on 2's" - wait it gets better - "HARD cover, 4's, within 12", 3's, targeters make it 2's, electing to shoot storm bolters as twin linked bolters so hitting on 3's..... oh, its not the 90's anymore?"

Those of you who think you play a perfect game every time, with no exceptions, I challenge you to record all of your games, upload them, and then have the internet nitpick them to death.

I think that while you are editing these games, keeping the codex and rule books available to make a list of things that weren't exactly by the book would be a good idea. Post that video with the other video, and everyone is happy.

Some of these comments... the ones with the most vitriol don't seem to be vault members.

Do you guys buy DVDs? Did you support the store while it up? I mean... unless you a gold member or put 100 dollars into MWG a month..

At least PRETEND to be respectful. GOSH. If you dislike something so much that you aren't really paying for, don't watch it..

I appreciated addressing the comments in this way. It's a big, complicated game, and I certainly don't fault people for getting rules wrong, especially for armies different than their usual playstyle.

I also highly support peterbernier's comment about the random armies. The idea is fun, in concept, but I've seen a couple where the tactics and rules on both sides were simply atrocious. Again, I don't expect anyone to be an expert with every army out there.

For the random armies, I would think that narrowing them down to ~6 armies you are familiar with is a great start.

Or, maybe agree to a starter batrep, where you both try armies you've never really tried before. I remember a Dan batrep where he played necron, and his opponent played orks, just because they each hadn't played that army before. That's a fun idea, and I'd hope you'd get more slack from us armchair experts if the batrep is understood to be a beginner list for each.

ChrisMcSwane (Over a year ago): - delete
Thank you for the rules you got wrong. I learn something each time.

It takes two to play, and the responsibility to play the rules correctly lies with both players. To blame just one for cheating when a mistake is made is inappropriate , especially when playing an unfamiliar army. Intent should be considered. I wonder how well all the batreps of the negative posters on this thread would stand up to the scrutiny of 1000 viewers. I imagine the perfection they believe they play with would be proven to be false. That being said, the wonders of editing do allow you to reference the rules whenever you want without altering the viewing experience. Utilize that when needed.

lordraptor (Over a year ago): - delete
Don't worry Owen, people only think you cheated because you won. If you had lost they would have been seen as honest mistakes As an aside, I find it curious that Kris' recent batrep with Jay had him make a few mistakes with the new eldar codex on his first try at it but no one called HIM a cheater...curious...

1) I think it's awesome that you read your comments and respond rather then ignoring. Kudos!
2) People should not care about minor rules issues that crop up during a game. Dante being 1.5" instead of 2"? Really?!?
3) However, I DO think there are some larger rules issues that just reek of sloppiness. Your entire army was build around dreadnaughts, yet you admit that you were unfamiliar with the rules for them, moved them wrong and assaulted with them wrong and (I think) actually had more in your army then you were allowed to have. THOSE are issues with preparation, not play. It only takes 15 minutes to review the rules for unfamiliar units before the game starts.
4) any comments about "cheese" and cheating should be ignored. They are not only wrong, but personal attacks and mis-placed.
5) Finally; I would never post any of these comments if these videos were not accompanied by a request that I pay for vault content. I love the hobby & am thankful of hobbyists that spend their time playing & posting batreps. But if you're going to ask me to pay for content I think it's fair to expect a level of professionalism from the Batreps. Professional means prepared, accurate & produced well. Your reps LOOK great, but in recent months the participants don't look prepared and as such the games are being played accurately.

Some of the comments about the BatReps have been very negative especially the ones about cheese lists. If the guy turned up at our club then he'd have to just take it coz there's a fair few who enter competitions and their lists are a nightmare to play against. Keep making the vids and keep randomizing the armies it keeps it fresh as well as trying out different lists.

I really don't think you need to do a disclaimer. Just do one of these more often to address any issues. It was what Dan used to do and very few people seemed to get so riled up about his mistakes. I personally am really enjoying seeing so many different armies and really enjoy your batreps.

Doing new things leads to new mistakes, that is life . As long as you learn from your mistakes (and you do Owen), everything is fine. Some people take this way to seriously.

Side-note: you are my favourite content-producer, because you are honest about your playstyle, do new things and because I love your dry humour .

I think MWG needs to clearly communicate what it plans to offer. As you can see from the comments there are a lot of different desires here that may not be compatible.

I can offer my own view, I like to watch competitive battles that are cleanly run. Like what the beat Matt series offered. Matt's busy growing his business so that's dried up now. (Good for him) You seem like the only hope since the other video producers really aren't strong players. Incidentally that's why I'm all over you, I realize that's not constructive now.

To set the record clear, I quoted Mike joking that he though you were cheating. I didn't call you a cheater and no other comment on that video used the word. I do apologize for my snark about you not having your act together. Sorry that wasn't classy.

As you can see I'm a frustrated paying customer, I may not be a majority but I'm not alone. Will you ask Matt to let the community know if MWG plans to cater to my segment? That will help me decide if I will renew vault.

I'm sorry in 6th ed walkers are trash. My poor poor deff dred and kans are almost just used as shields now

DarkPrinceRaven (Over a year ago): - delete
Walkers do have advantages that Monstrous Creatures don't, such as: the ability to fire more than 2 weapons, immunity to poison, getting more than 1 bonus attack for multiple weapons (Tyranid MCs don't even get 1); and your standard AV 12 Dreadnaught is completely immune to strength 5 and less, only being glanced by 6s, while a standard Toughness 6 Monstrous Creature can still be wounded by strength 3 and is wounded by strength 6 on a 4 . Plus Walkers are generally a fair bit cheaper than Monstrous Creatures.

Owen, I appreciate how difficult your job is. You need to produce a lot of batreps with a variety of unfamiliar armies to keep our interest. Learning all those rules takes time and hard work. Well, sorry to say, you're not doing a very good job lately. I like to watch batreps to learn new things. How can I learn anything from a batrep where the players don't even know basic rules - like no, dreadnaughts aren't monstrous creatures?

My suggestion is you go and have a sit down with Matt and ask him to help you get your act together. It would do you much more good than complaining to us that we should give you a pass on your poor performance. I really can't even watch your batreps lately they're so bad.

You seem like a nice guy and I really do want you to succeed. I strongly suggest you go and ask Matt for help getting this sorted out. Good luck and I wish you all the success in the world.

I understand making mistakes, I do it all the time myself, but this is your job. Charging people money for such a poor quality batrep just isn't right, and is one of the reasons I'm not a vault member. I don't know if this particular batrep was in the vault or not, but I can assume those one have just as many mistakes. No insult intended.
