Vassal 40k

I'm sorry my last post was a bit of a let down but here I'm introducing a relatively awesome feature called Vassal 40k.

With vassal 40k you can battle over long distances with a program that although hard to master can be very powerful.

Step 1:
Download Vassal here

Step 2:
Vassal is the hosting program and supports many games. The 40k module can be found here

Step 3: Open Vassal and then double click on the warhammer module. You will be prompted for a name and a password the first time you join. Click Look for a game online.

Step 4:The actual game window should appear. To the right of the screen are joinable games. The far right window shows the game you have selected. and the second to the right shows the available games.

Step 5:Right click on a game and click join game to join it. To connect to the host. Right click on the person on the top of the list's name and then click synchronize. Then select which player you are( the number you are down on the list) Lastly you can open a few different neccesary windows. Open them by clicking the buttons at the top of the screen. They are:
Army list
note: you will need to be synchronized to a host to open board and turn

Step 5:Make an army list by typing it or copying it into the army list box
Step 6: By clicking on models you access the sprites for all your models. Drag them onto the board to deploy them

All of the dice counters are really self explanatory.

@Enzal: I would be open to that.. We could use the AoBR armies, and we could use a chat service like Skype to provide the tutorials. Send me a Warmail and I'll see if I can't get something tossed together..

With the ability to join as a spectator, has anyone thought of hosting a 40k school? Something where people could log in and watch tutorials on game-play mechanics and tactics? As a new player myself this would be an awesome way to learn while I'm getting an army ready to field. (Me being a new player is also why I couldn't run tutorials atm)

Like everything else, GW ruined it because they are greedy.

do you have to download a certain module or do you just download Vassal and you can play everything?

its not ment to replace tabletop 40k. it's a fun alternative for people who live too far away to feasibly play tabletop game or those who don't have the space to leave a game set up. Being able to play anyone in the world and save games for future play are very nice.
