@wolf164: I'm not sure of the size of the magnets, but they were apparently the smallest that the store had in stock. On the Landraider sponson there are two of the magnets attached to each other, that might give you a rough scale. They are about the same width as the top of a flying base ( without the nub )

Great ideas for magnetizing, what size magnets are you using for the Landspeeder. To answer you question you could have some sort of bar attach from the back of the gunner seat and to the side of the bike, making it look like a stabilizing bar or a shock to absorb the bumps. That is just my opinion of what you could do.
