Freelance writers, read this

Post by miniwargaming » Thu May 21, 2009 4:32 pm

As we are starting to delve even deeper into creating the storyline, game play (we've been play testing the skirmish game and loving it), and everything else about Primal Horizon I have come across many people wanting to contribute.

If you are interested in freelance writing for Primal Horizon, then please send an email to freelance@miniwargaming.com with a 5-10 paragraph "excerpt" of a short story that you feel would fit in the Primal Horizon world (given what little you have read).

It doesn't have to be an entire story, just an excerpt so that I can get a feel for your style.

You will receive an email back to let you know if you were accepted or not, and how we can progress from there.

Also, in the email that you send, let me know what you are looking to receive as compensation for writing for us (e.g. how much you want to get paid, a discount at our store, points, etc.).

You can post questions here, but don't post your applications as I will not review them here.

Also, only use that email address for its intended purposes. Any other emails will be deleted, including customer support emails.

I submitted my story, it was only a rough draft and could have a lot more added, but it would also give you ideas to write your own story in that way if you do not choose to go with my writing style.

DigitalNinja, I would suggest that if you really want to help with the writing that you clean up the rough draft, and not just tell them that it could be better but it isn't.

It just doesn't look as good.

And I'll start working on a story. I love writing fiction!

It breaks up all of that nasty essay writing for school.

It's not as rough as you think. I just meant that I shortened the story to fit in the 5-10 paragraph criteria for the e-mail. I meant it's more like the short and sweet form.

Why can't you just email them? After all, that is what they asked for.

I think I'll work on honing my roman style faction, the Guardians, and send it in to you. Expect it in the next few days hopefully!

Can someone please explain how long 5-10 paragraphs is?

I have searched in a dictonary after a translation and I found one. But it doesn´t tell me how long it is.

I will be really happy for answers.

So are you asking what a paragraph is? Well a google search can give you that answer. Usually each paragraph will cover a topic/idea and will usually be anywhere from 5-8+ sentences...though this is more common in essays...for stories I guess whatever you feel make sense for a seperation in the writing.

Also to note, Matt said that you do not need to send the entire story, just an excerpt will suffice. Therefore its probably better if you do not summarize and cut things out to make your story fit the size limit. They want to see your writing skills not how much you can squeeze into 10 paragraphs...

Ok, thanks for the answers. I should just write a part of the story (if it is larger than 10 paragraphs).

EDIT: Took me a hour to write, but I wrote up a little story. I dont expect too much, but its worth the try.
