Really hoping the New codex does not suck

If it ain't human, and it ain't from the warp, then it must be Xenos.

So what do scything talons do now?
Has Robin Cruddace killed nids more because he exploits his power as a codex writer to make tyranids worse because he can't understand that there is a horde army out there better then those cardboard wearing, flashlight armed people that is wrongly entitled an "army". More to the point, is he just a super sore loser and doesn't like it when he loses?

But to be positive...whats good about the new codex?

Does the swarmlord have options?
Start again...Ha. A. A ha. A ha ha ha. A ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. A A A ha. Ha a ha. Hahaha a ha ha ha. Cough. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I was told to....

Scything talons are now just regular CC weapons with AP 6, no other bonuses. Can't answer the rest for sure as I don't get the codex until Tuesday at the earliest :(

Ok, so i've spent the day reading it and I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be.
You will have to run your army differently in this edition without a doubt however the sky certainly is not falling.

One of the most common complaints I see is boneswords now being ap3 rather than the ignore armour that they were in the previous edition. However my counter argument to this is. In the last edition people generally only really took them on Hive Tyrants anyway making this point mute. If you were taking them on shrikes or warriors then yes you have lost ap 2 for everyone else they didn't really loose anything.

Speaking of warriors I think there can absolutely be run not, yes they are T4 which can certainly be ID by Str8 and able however personally speaking in my Meta which is semi-competitive to pro-competative depending on the tournament I enter I rarely see a overwhelming amount of Str 8, in fact I can not remember the last time I saw a missile launcher or man mounted las cannon. I'm sure they're out there but not everyone you run across is going to have one.

Riptides and Wraithknights are what come to mind with str 8+ to me and indeed this 2 things could easy kill a couple a turn (if you're spacing properly then that should be it) and for me at least if they are only targeting warriors while the rest of my force marches the field than great.

There are also ways of supporting you warriors while also supporting the ret of your force as Venomthropes come to mind. Venom thropes should be giving most things in your force a 3+ cover say (intervening models + shrouding) Once again the common argument is that cover can be easily ignored but can it really? Lets have a look at that argument.

Common cover ignoring weapons are Tau marker lights and Snsor Suite, Space Marine Thunder Fire Cannon, Imperial Guard Tank (sorry the name eludes me) and generally most flamers. Tau ignore everyones cover so to say it's a Tyranid problem is truly a misstatement. However if it is marker lights that are your bane then you can support you warriors (and everything else for that matter) by destroying them with any flamer template in the book (there are a few and some have pinning), speaking of which pinning them as there are several ways of doing that as well, dropping spore mines (which are great now) and the list continues.

As for the Tau Sensor suite you will simply have to remove it as any other army would have to.

I could write a paragraph on how to deal with Guard and Marine cover removing things but really I shouldn't have to.

Another great benefit to the new book is the new version of Shadow in the Warp. The new iteration is that all psychers must pass any ld test with a -3 modifier. Now you should really look at that it says "Ledership tests are passed with a negative 3 modifier) So this does not simply mean psychic test it also means any morale test, pinning test and so forth as long as a person is a psyched. So Eldar Farseers, Warlocks, Shadow Seers which everyone current complains about will be very hurt by this.

I could continue about why I really like this book however I simply ask that you read it before you start saying its trash. I might be in the minority here but I think this book will hurt a lot of current builds.

Biovores are even better than in the last book as spore mines are better so they got an indirect buff plus they are cheaper by 5 points however they did lose a wound although I don't really think that effects their roll as long range artillery.

If you bring a hive tyrant you can indeed flank in some warriors if you pay for it like the last edition.

Genestealers are exactly the same as before sate wise and point wise, you can buy a pair of talons which will give you another attack but keeping them base cost would be best.

In saying that you could run them as a press army now with lictors and spore mines, raveners, mawlocks and the like. Will it be effective? Well I don't know until I try it, after all I think this new nid edition is more about using units effectively than spamming tervigons like before, although this statement truly works for any force.
Ronin wrote:This is what I thought of running the old codex for 1850:

HQ
- Hive Tyrant (2x twinlinked devourer cannon, Hive commander, Wings)
- Parasite of Mortrex

Troops
- Warrior Brood (6x, 6x Bonesword pairs, 5x Deathspitter, 6x Adrenal Glands, Barbed Strangler)
- Warrior Brood (3x, Barbed strangler, 2x Deathspitter)
- Warrior Brood (3x, Barbed strangler, 2x Deathspitter)
- Warrior Brood (3x, Barbed strangler, 2x Deathspitter)

Elites
- Venomthrope
- Venomthrope
- Hive Guard Brood

Heavy Support
- Biovore Brood (3x)
- Biovore Brood (3x)
- Trygon

Total: 1810. 40 points left to work, but I got tired. xD

Can't wait to see how the points would be adjusted with the following.
Well the parasite is gone now but the list would cost about 1650. I maxed out your Hive guard for this as well as you didn't have a number written down. I also had to change the stanglers to 1 per unit however I believe this was the same last book as well.

Also this list wouldn't of worked in the last book I believe because of how your warriors are set up however now you can arm any model with whatever you like, so you don't need to have a brood with all the same upgrades.

Actually it's noted in the armory and reference section that a Tyranid creature needs two pairs of weapons to get the bonus attack, so you need 4 scything talons to get one bonus attack. It's pretty bad. : /

well at least I did not waist my money buying the codex and all the new models, shame really maybe in another 2-3 years they will be the scary monsters they should be
How ironic it is that as fast as we spread progress and hope throughout the galaxy, the Tyranids spread death and despair. Only united can we hope to stand against them. Aun'shi of the Tau Empire
