We've all been there, holding our brushes for the first time (in my case it was a very mediocre walmart brush, never again will I touch my models with less than the best) looking down at your first army(s) and you begin painting, I am sure we all were proud than, but I definatly am not proud now. the reason I started this topic is I was searching through my photobucket and thought of how much I really improved at painting over the years, so the idea is to post some of your oldest models, compaired to some of your most recent, now I know this is impossible for some of you, I just say look for the oldest picture you can find if thats the case. without further ado, here is my Then and Now. Then: In Between: about half a year ago: Now: I'd concider it quite an improvement if I do say so myself.
EDIT: Added models from in between. I still think my stuff in between is decent enough, but it is not quite on par with the stuff of the now.

I don't have any pictures or models remaining from my earliest work but here's a few from about 5 years ago and then some form the last year or so.
And then some newer work (some of it WIP as I'm still working on them or have no pics of the completed models)

This Thread is an awesome motivation for me. I'm painting now since 1 1/2 months and feel pretty good now that I saw how good you all improved over the years. Keeps me motivated that I will get this good too, if I stick to it!

The main reason I've gotten better at painting is I keep trying new techniques and learn to do old ones better, and get some advice from my friends, another major motivation to my painting is seeing all the grey armies at my club, I want to have a fully painted army one day to kind of help pick up everyone else to be inspired to paint, only about 3 of us paint here regularly.

This is a little embarrassing but here is my first painted models
and this is what I am painting now
I am really pleased at my progress as a painter so far but I am starting to feel like I have hit a wall and my skills are starting to plateau, but oh well I just have to keep at it and learn as much as I can.
Great examples from everyone, all the people that have posted so far have truly improved in skill!!!

I uploaded a video last year on my Youtube channel as a response to another Youtuber, called "Painting Progress" or similar. I'm writing on my phone right now so I can't look it up, but compared to what has been posted here it's still only mediocre at best, despite me improving. Oh well, just continue and try to get better. I love converting and gaming, just the PAINting... >_<

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my early work and my hd camera is being repaired so I'll just say that my painting has improved a loooooooot where I started out with thick flat colours obscuring all details I am now at the stage of NMM and the like. It just goes to show that Practice does make Perfect.
It's funny you'd post this, I was mulling over the new 6th edition allies system earlier today, debating on getting some Salamanders to go with my Steel Legion. I used to play Salamanders way back when Codex: Armageddon came out in 3rd and I was thinking of doing some comparisons between what would be my new ones and my original paint job. I probably won't be getting to that for a bit, but when I get to the club tomorrow I'll have to see if I can get some pics done up of the Warp Wolves I just finished the other day compared to some of my older stuff.
