Thanks for the advice, sounds really interesting, only problem is I don't have a black primer and won't buy one for some time, but I'll keep it in mind.
Here my last work, I'm pretty happy with it, even though there still are some obvious mistakes... The green "wash" I created myself ended up everywhere except the lines I wanted it to go in but at least the pattern is visible this time.

I don't know if you can see it clearly but I painted the cloak of my storm lord purple first so that every nook an cranny was purple then I painted every square (don't know how to name them so I call them squares) black that way it gives a subtle purple glow in the details also I painted the details on the shoulder with a fine brush by laying the brush flat and gently painting the edges like so Õ the O is the model and ~ is the brush that way you only paint the raised edges and not between the edges that way the details pop out hope I could help

Nice job on the storm lord, quite impressive. I'm not sure if I could apply the flat brushing method on the mandrakes chest pattern, because they're very tiny sunken lines, I have an idea how to try it though, let's see if it works. I'll try the second trick too, 2 more mandrakes left so there's still some room for experiment Thanks for the advice man!

Firstly, be advised i'm a noob painter as well but I offer this suggestion: Yes try the reverse metal black shadow bit. After the chest is primed but before you get the skin the way you want it, paint the lines with the glow color. Then do the skin above with a flat brush style and light touch (prolly dry so it doesnt leak into the cracks neh?) Now, highlight edges in a white/color mix and do same superlight drybrush. I'm thinking it'll give a reverse lightsaber effect and pop against the black skin.
Alternatively, do the lightsaber bit in that you lay down the color mix first and apply a fading gradient darker to blend with skin...
/shrug -- y'all painters figure it out (but i'll be watching since I wanna learn, too!)

I agree with theruggernaut for sunken linen as that way the sunken lines will pop out I just painted the cloak purple and then finely painted everything except the sunken lines black but that took me about an half an hour just to paint the cloak but the effect was worth it and as with every pic you post you can see improvement I would think that when you have painted a few more you'll get there and if you have more questions just pm me or mike or blue or blacksanity or someone else ^^
keep us posted on your progress ^^

Hey guys, I'm back with my first (experimental I guess..) Kabalite. I decided to go with dirty look rather than shiny clean boring style I'm not entirely happy with this one, I'll paint another one tomorrow, will probably post some pics too.
Venom, my first vehicle (I painted 1 WWII plane maybe 3 years ago, but it was pretty terrible ). Is it not to ugly? It needs a little bit more work, I'll finish it soon with the crew models...

Haha don't worry about your commissions man, I still have a lot of trouble with some stuff, like skin highlighting for example

I don't have any of those washes :/ I own only badab black and new druchi violet. I'll think about it when I get a second venom though.
Here is a quick picture of 2 wyches that came with venom (I'm using the 3rd one for my WIP secret project ), better pics tomorrow
