First off, welcome back A-man! Its been a while!

Secondly, I approve wholeheartedly of your choice to join the ranks of the imperiums finest!

Thirdly, the list looks good to me, you have anti infantry covered, as well as some anti-tank with the Scions and the conscripts should keep the enemy melee units at a distance for a bit. I have a thing for bringing brigades this edition, but you need 1000 points to pull it off, but its something to work towards ;)

My only concern is the heavy weapon teams being very exposed, I would rather see them inside an infantry squad, unless you really need to fill heavy support slots. But then the scions will probably do most of the heavy lifting.

Lastly, if you want conscripts, I prefer the 1 pose 5 men guardsmen boxes, you can get almost 3 for the price of 1 box of shock troopers, plus they are much easier/faster to assemble. I might be a bit late with that advice ;)

Can you have 4 special weapons with the Scions? I thought you can have only 2.
I would personally take the missile launchers for the Taurox, with Krak missiles you can threaten alot of important units and other transports and can take some heat from your lascannons.
Also take voxcasters for your scions to make the most of the orders and the tempestus rod, unless you want your Prime close to the front line. Remember your company commander can't order your scions.

Hi Airman.

That's a good min-maxed list. Not much I can recommend except two things that I'd do:

1) Split the Scions in half to get them down into four squads rather than just two.

2) Find the points to stick the Lascannon teams into 3 individual command squads rather than a single heavy weapons team. It costs more but you can spread them around and use them at BS3+ rather than BS4+. Plus if they're in seperate squads they won't all get wiped out at once by a single flamer.

You can take 2 for every 5 scions, so you can bring 4 in a 10 man squad.

@Arnathos: Howdy again, Arnathos! :D

Unfortunately it's too late for me to buy those extra Guardsman models but I could also pick them up in the future! Though I can also swap out the Heavy Weapons Squad for an Infantry squad with a Lascannon and some other special weapon such as a grenade launcher, that might work.

@Raschier: What Signet-Powers said; I ran it through Battlescribe and it came up clean as far as I know!

@Signet-Powers: That's a good point, splitting up those squads. I suppose I should have the two Hotshot Volley Gun squads in the Taurox, with the Plasma and Melta ones deepstriking? And I never considered running Command Squads for heavy weapons, that's actually pretty neat! Do I even need Lascannons with all the plasma, meltas, hellguns and dakka on the field?
Clearly Superior.

You have a lot of dakka but you don't have much anti-tank. Lascannons are great but thinking about it now, I'm liking Raschiers suggestion and I say you should swap out the Heavy Weapons squad to give the 2nd Taurox a missile launcher and autocannons. 1 strength weaker but unless you're shooting T8 it's the same dice rolls and AP-2 should be fine...

Plus if you get rid of the plasma pistols and mauls that your characters ideally shouldn't need to use, you should have 53 points left over. You could use those to spread around a few vox casters and upgrade the conscripts into fully fledged infantry squads (Better BS, leadership and access to special/heavy weapons).

As for the Scions I'd deepstrike them all. Thanks to the new disembark rule transports aren't that great at actually transporting units around(with exception to the Valkyrie that is). Plus it puts them at risk having to move them closer. Luckily Tauroxe Primes have better firepower than a Leman Russ so they're pretty powerful if you use them as light tanks.

I had to make a few adjustments. I can drop a Commissar and Infantry Squad to take a forth Scion squad and some plasma pistol upgrades, etc., or leave it as-is. For 1000 points I can simply add another Taurox Prime and some infantry. How does this look? Using the Infantry Squads pretty much as meatshields with teeth.

I'd lose the 2nd Commissar, 2 voxes from units that arn't going to be using them(as the commander and Tempestor can only give out two) and take the plasma guns off the infantry squads. Then you can use the points for a fourth Scion squad and you can give them the plasma guns isntead.

They'll be deepstriking into rapid fire range with BS3+(and re-roll 1's with orders) so you'll get more use out of them. The infantry squads should be fine with FRFSRF.

So all in all you'll have two Tauroxs(one specialising in anti-horde, the other anti-tank), 3 infantry squads with supporting characters for board control, and 4 Scions squads for a mass alpha-strike.

That sounds excellent, thank you! Out of curiosity I wouldn't be considered to be "That Guy" if I ran a power list like this?

Nobody is yet a "that guy" in my opinion, because everyone is still trying out lists. Maybe instead of another plasma squad of 5, you could take a scions command squad with 4 meltas and drop them behind a tank or transport.

Nah, you ain't thinking cheesy enough. A proper "That guy" list would look something like this:

Super Heavy detachment:
- Shadowsword +5 Twin Heavy Flamers + 4 Lascannons

Vanguard detachment:
- Temepstor Prime + Command rod
- Scion command squad +4 plasmaguns
- Scion command squad +4 plasmaguns
- Scion command squad +4 plasmaguns

...or something close. That may be 10 points over 750 I think. Main cannon one shots anything, Superheavy rule means all weapons can fire in assault and 12 plasma guns deepstrike behind enemy lines.

Well darn I have to get me one of those Baneblades for a future list!

I went in a bit of a different direction and broke my space dudes into two detachments. I feel pretty darn flimsy but if I can alpha down priority targets and get lucky with saves, then there's hope. I can probably drop my plasma pistols for upgrades on my Infantry Squads, but I figure rerolling those 1s for overcharging is pretty important. I >think< this list is final. I'm definitely open to input, and playtesting will help me shore up any holes. Really hoping I don't run into Land Raider/Razorback spam. I'm pretty sure swapping my Hotshot Volley Guns to melta is the way to go but you never know, deepstriking might need the help of 8 shots of S4 AP2.

Last question: How good is Taurox Prime spam? Working on a 1000 pt list with four Tauroxes; two have Hot Shot Volley guns + Gattling Cannons and the other two have Twin Autocannons and Missile Launchers. I personally think it's hilarious the sheer number of shots and range I can engage at but is it actually viable against competitive armies?

The prime is quite squishy, with only T6 most weapons can reliably wound them and then your Primes get weaker. And they are quite expensive with a missile prime compromising 14% of your army, so if you lose one you lose a lot of fire power in your army. And with lack of any other threatening units they are likely to be targetted first.

My gut feeling, not having played a single game yet, is that vehicles of any kind tend to be a liability. The taurox prime at least has a decent chance of hitting the enemy, but most other vehicles, aside from the wyverns, and maybe basilisks/manticores are a bit too expensive for what they do in my opinion.

But the edition is still young, I loved my autocannon/missile launcher T-Prime in the previous edition, because it was speedy and shooty and brought something no other vehicle in the IG arsenal could do.
