When people are rating playing difficulty, do they mean that higher is the number, higher is the difficulty or the contrary? Because I'm surprised with the high difficulty rating of Warriors of Chaos. I'm only a prospective fantasy player, but I was under the impression it was a beginner friendly army.

For my ratings high is easy, and WoC are one of the easiest races to play by far.
Time will tell... Sooner or later... Time will tell.

FYI, I'm Dutch, not Finnish, I just live there.

Yes, it makes more sense :) . They are pretty straightfoward in design.

My advice to anyone who is starting a new army

You enjoy reading books pick a army based on there background
You enjoy the look of things pick a army based on there design
You enjoy video games pick a army based on your play style

what not to do when picking a army

You want to win all the time it will never happen as top army's and rules always shift
You pick a army based on cost money wise good idea at first but do you like the look or the background of this army.
Starting this game but you don't want to paint the army its a hobby so please just slap some paint on don't worry if people think it looks horrible its better then a river of grey and also painting your own style not what the box said's will make the army one of a kind for example blue blood letters look freaking awesome.

Hope this helps

High Elves
[*] Playing Fun 8
[*] Playing difficulty 8
[*] Painting difficulty 7
[*] Painting fun 8
[*] Conversions 6
[*] Magic ability 8.5
[*] Melee ability 8
[*] Range ability 7

They are good but hard to use, and are better if you take enough time to learn about them.

Wood Elves
[*] Playing Fun 9
[*] Playing difficulty 8
[*] Painting difficulty 8
[*] Painting fun 8
[*] Conversions 7
[*] Magic ability 7(9) If in forests and with certain lores to fit your army
[*] Melee ability 5(7) If in forests and other circumstances
[*] Range ability 9

Also hard to use, and very reliant on situations.
I play both of these armies, but am more experienced with High Elves.

High Elves- 2000+ points, only like, 10% painted so far

Hey guys I have been playing whfb for a small time now, and while getting your teeth kicked in is a time honored tradition for new players, I would like it to stop. I am going to be trying out a new list any help would be just great. Also would blood knights and black knights get a parry save?

Lords (245pts)
Master Necromancer (245pts)
Lore of the Vampires, Master of the Dead (20pts), Wizard Level 4 (35pts), Dispel Scroll (25pts)

Heroes (381pts)

Necromancer (100pts)
Lore of the Vampires, Wizard Level 2 (35pts)

Vampire (281pts)
Battle Standard Bearer (25pts), Dread Knight (10pts), Great Weapon (8pts), Lore of the Vampires, Quickblood (30pts), Shield (2pts), Wizard Level 2 (35pts)
Barded Nightmare (16pts), Armour of Destiny (50pts)

Core (620pts)

30x Crypt Ghoul (300pts)

5x Dire Wolf (40pts)

5x Dire Wolf (40pts)

Skeleton Warriors (240pts)
Champion (10pts), 39x Skeleton Warrior (195pts), The Screaming Banner (25pts), Sword+Shield

Special (418pts)

8x Black Knight (208pts)
8x Barding (24pts), 8x Lances (16pts), Banner of the Barrows (50pts)

Maybe you should make a separate thread for list building and such. Just saying. :)
Cavalry models do not get parry saves without separate special rules like iron fists for ogres and etc..
Now to the list -->

Lords (245pts)
Master Necromancer (245pts)
Lore of the Vampires, Master of the Dead (20pts), Wizard Level 4 (35pts), Dispel Scroll (25pts)
Maybe a talisman of preservation to this guy for a ward save.

Heroes (381pts)

Necromancer (100pts)
Lore of the Vampires, Wizard Level 2 (35pts)

Vampire (281pts)
Battle Standard Bearer (25pts), Dread Knight (10pts), Great Weapon (8pts), Lore of the Vampires, Quickblood (30pts), Shield (2pts), Wizard Level 2 (35pts)
Barded Nightmare (16pts), Armour of Destiny (50pts)

You can't use the shield with great weapon so the shield is wasted here. Maybe drop the great weapon? S5 is good enough to deal with most things except maybe 1+ armour and that is just maybe. Also you then get the benefits for ASF.

Core (620pts)

30x Crypt Ghoul (300pts)

this unit is okay.

5x Dire Wolf (40pts)

5x Dire Wolf (40pts)

Skeleton Warriors (240pts)
Champion (10pts), 39x Skeleton Warrior (195pts), The Screaming Banner (25pts), Sword+Shield

these guys need full command and screaming banner doesn't really give that so I advice to drop it.

Special (418pts)

8x Black Knight (208pts)
8x Barding (24pts), 8x Lances (16pts), Banner of the Barrows (50pts)

10 knights for two ranks of attacks

5x Hexwraith (150pts)

I like hexwraith, but in this list they are really not going to give you that much by only having 5 of them. They also call for unit of 10 and now that you have black knights also, I would let them go and buff up the knights and other units.
If I would run these there would be two units of 10 each as they are so easy to take out by magic missiles, other spells and dwarf warmachines in lower numbers.

Rare (335pts)

5x Blood Knight (335pts), Flag of Blood Keep (75pts), 5xNightmare

Not really a huge fan of these guys just by looking at their stats and when there are those sweet terrorghaists to compare to. Terrorghaists all the way, except if I play out more of fluff vampire list with my vampire king and all, but let's not go to that now.

I hope this helps by some amount and have a nice games! :)
And nurgles blessing!

Thanks man! Unfortunately I don't have the money for a terrorghaist right now, so I'm stuck with the knights for now. What benefit does full command give? I am still pretty new and not quite up on all the rules. I am definitely going to drop the hex wraiths though. Would a blender lord in the skeletons be better then one with the black knights?

It's been a while, but if my memory is good they do this:

- The standard bearer gives +1 to combat resolution in close combat, but dies as soon as the unit flee.
- The musician will break ties in combat resolution in your favour if the enemy doesn't have one. In addition, he allows to make a swift reform (see the rule book in the movement phase category).
- The Champion is simply like the sergeant in Warhammer 40k. He usually have +1 attack and can challenge the enemy characters or answer theirs. In some armies (like Orcs), he has further stat bonuses.
