Hydras RAWR.

Post by Nonebutone » Thu Sep 19, 2013 1:14 pm

I'll post the deck list shortly... but this is the combo I'm aiming for for a standard Green/Red/Black deck.

Turn 1: Cast Elvish Mystic (1/1 that can tap for 1 additional Green mana)
TUrn 2: Cast Gyer sage (1/2, taps for any colored mana equal to the amount of +1/+1 counters that are on Gyer Sage, Evolve; if you cast a creature with higher power or toughness then this creature put a +1/+1 counter on it)
Turn 3: Cast Renegade Krasis(3/2, Evolve, Each time this creature evolves put a +1/+1 counter on each other creature with a +1/+1 counter you control), Trigger evolve on Gyer Sage. (Now at 1)

Turn 4(this is when crap hits the fan)
Cast Corpsejack Menace( 4/4, Double the number of +1/+1 counters that would be put on creatures you control) Triggers evolve of Gyer Sage and Renegade Krasis, which each get 2 +1/+1 counters. Renegade Krasis then triggers giving Gyer Sage an additional 2 +1/+1 counters (Now at 5)

Tap Gyer Sage, (for 5 mana of any color) Cast Kolonian Hydra(0/0 that enters play with 4 +1/+1 counters, each time it attacks double the number of counters on all creatures you control) Kalonian Hydra enters play as an 8/8 Triggering Evolve on Gyer Sage and Renegade Krasis, both getting +2/+2, Causing Renedade Krasis, to then give 2 additional counters to the Kalonian Hydra, and the gyer Sage

Atm we now have: a 4/4 Corpse Jack menace, a 10/10 Kalonian Hydra, a 1/1 Elvish Mystic, a.. 7/6 Renegade Krasis, a 9/10(tapped) Gyer Sage.

Turn 5: Tap Gyer sage for 8 mana and Elvish Mystic for 1 mana, Cast Exava(3/3 Haste, first strike, Unleash(may enter play with a +1/+1 counter but cannot block, all creatures with +1/+1 counters have haste) Unleashed.
Caste 2nd Kalonian Hydra or Corpsejack menace. (preferably Hydra if in hand)

Hydra Enters play as a 8/8, Triggering evolve on Renegade Krasis, giving it 2 additional +1/+1 counters, Trigering Renegade Krassis to give original Kalonian Hydra 2+1/+1 counters, giving Exava 2 +1/+1 counters, and Gyer Sage 2 +1/+1 counters.

Attack Phase:
Attackers Declared:
Exava(Currently a 6/6)
Kalonian Hydra (currently 12/12)
Kalonian Hydra 2(Currently 10/10
Renegade KRasis(currently a 9/8)

Kalonian attack triggers,
Exava has 3 +1/+1 counters
Kalonian(1) as 12
Kalonian (2) has 10
Renegade Krasis has 6

Exava doubled to 6, then 12. Exava is now a 15/15 First strike
Kalonian has 12, Doubled 24, then Doubled to 48
Kalongian(2) has 10, 20, 40
Renegade, 6, 12, 24

2nd Kalonian attack triggers:
Exava, 12, 24, 48. Exava is now a 51/51 first striker
Kalonian(1) is a 48/48, now is 192/192 Trample
Kalonian(2) is a 40/40 now a 160/160
Renegade Krasis is 96/96

ANd... Gyer sage at the back... (who had 8 counters on it pre combat) is a tapped 129/130

With that much mana kicking around you should totally be casting the new legendary Hydra from Theros as your secondary Hydra.

Current Deck list:

3 CorpseJack Menace
4 Elvish Mystic
3 Exava, Rakdos blood Witch
3 Gyre sage
4 Kalonian Hydra
2 Lotleth Troll
2 Savaging Ooze
3 Renegade Krasis
2 Savageborn Hydra
2 Primoreal Hydra

3 Blood Crypts
13 Forests
3 Mountains
3 Stomping grounds
2 Swamps

3 Gogari Charms
3 Rancors
2 Savage Summoning

Theros Changes:
-2 Primoeral Hydra
-3 Rancor
-3 Gogari Charm
-2 Savaging Ooze

+2 Polukranos, World eater
+2 Mistcuter Hydra
+1 Nylea, God of the Hunt
+2 Bow of Nylea.
+1 Savage Summoning.
(with the Savaging summoning being the weakest card of the set unless against a counter heavy opponet... or if you want to quickly have a 3001/3001 Elvish Mystic)
For the previous mentioned combo to work: you'd need to draw... 2 black sources, 1 red, and 1 Green. So easily done for the above cards (Not to mention its 11 cards total, equaling out to a non-Mulligan ultimate hand + best draws)

So far play tested against blue/white control (Which was very much the nemesis to this deck) Still won 3/5 games, (no side board) where a single hydra was able to make it in to smash face.

Is the only appropriate thing I can say. Errrr.
