I'm suprised at the lack of handguns in this game, maybe a low attack 8-12" ranged attack with 0 move penalty. akin to the galagido spear but without the ap?

The game is only it its early testing stages - many of our faction ideas haven't seen the light of day yet, and we're testing with a small set of weapons. This is by no means the final product, and there will definitely be more diversity in the number and style of weapons available later on.
