I'm in the process of making a 30" hill using this method. Taken the day off work to get it done. Annoyingly I was unable to find any water based spray for sale over here in Blighty (a downside of reading American tutorials) so am currently waiting for my painstakingly applied black acrylic to dry. Hopefully it'll give me a good base to get the other layers onto.
If you're interested I can post a pic once it's finished? Don't want to hijack your thread though.

Please feel free to post a pic of your finished work. I would love to see some pieces made from my tutorial. Glad I could help!

Thanks for pointing out that the Krylon H2O doesn't melt foam This will save me many many many hours of painting.
No problem dude. I brushed my black base on the first one I ever made and it took forever! There are other types of water based aerosols that will not melt the foam either.

As requested. Not 100% happy with it but it's a fair effort for a first go I think. Added the removable rock "stack" with a small metal pin to give me a bit of flexibility and make it easier to transport. Thanks for giving me the tools to do this Blue.

Now that looks great Firepriest! Nicely done, I really like the tall pillar of rock. Adds some depth and character to the whole piece.
Next time try to push your highlights more. It will make the rock look more like the rock in the tutorial. Really though very nicely done, very organic.
I've made many terrain pieces over the past couple years and I am now known as the terrain guy for my neighborhood and still none of it comes close to that. I'm so envious of you right now.
