What's a Good Start to a Cryx army?

Post by Damn Lucky » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:09 pm

What's a Good way to start a Warmachine Cryx army?

There are alot of modles they have that I love.

Wizards:
Goreshade the Bastard
Witch Coven of Garlghast & Egrogore
Lich Lord Terminus

Units:
Bane Thralls
Bane Knights

Solos:
Machine Wraith
Pistol Wraith

War Jacks:
Reaper Helljack
Cankerworm Heavy Warjack
Leviathan
Harrower

Also all the Undead Pirate Stuff.

I know nothing about Warmachine, except that thows models are cool. Is it possible to start a Force with some of these models? Or would I be better off just getting the Cryx army starter?

I'm not even sure if I'm going to get into war machine just yet. But thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.
=/

Also the Style of armies I like to play is other Defensive/shooty and Aggressive/Assaulty Fast. My favorite 40k Armies to play being Tyranids and Imperial Guard.

What can you guys suggest to me to get a feel for how Cryx plays, and what models I could get that have good synergy/make a balanced force?

I am probably not the best person to ask this... or to answer it, but I would probably say get the army starter box for whatever you plan on playing.
If you're blue and you don't know
where to go to why don't you go
where fashion sits...
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

And that is why Kharn was cut from the original cast of Puttin' on the Ritz.

Eldar - 8000-ish

The thing is. Well there great models, there not my favorite models. There for I'm not 100% if that's how I want to start.

I LOVE the skeleton knight guys.

The problem is I got not idea what units they work well with. Or how to go about this warcaster business.

And I do want to play a army that would be balanced. Yet still fun to play.
^^

Heck. I don't even know what books I need to get.

Bane Thralls and Pistol Wraiths are amazing! You don't need to start with the box. I'll give you a list of stuff that:

Goreshade (Every warcaster is great, and each have a different way to play, you can't go wrong with any of the ones you listed.)
A box of Baneknights (The models look great and they are a pretty good unit to)
A pistol Wraith (Every Cryx battlegroup needs one.)
A reaper and a Cankerworm, I'd even suggest a blister of death rippers in there.

Also, instead of baneknights if you could suck it up and get a box of biletralls, they are great as well!

EDIT: also, Cryx plays a lot like nids, they are the fast and assaulty army of Warmachine, also very much a horde army.

I don't like Bile Thralls for the same reason I don't like Nurgle.

I like the Witired/rotting/skeleton looks.

I don't like the bloated look.

=/

Also that's for the wiki page. I'm reading it right now.

Then bane knights will do you fine, the game isn't like warhammer where you can go wrong with an army choice. Everything has strengths and weaknesses, everything is good for something, go with what you think looks cool.

Don't you still need a balanced army? Like something to help take out other Warjacks, Something to take out units, something strong agiest Solo's, ect?

Using the wiki as a guide/idea grounds.

Some Wish Listing:
----------------------------------
-Master Necrotech Mortenebra
-Harrower
-Deathrippers
-1 full unit of Bane Knights. (That I can split into two.)

-----------------------------------
-Goreshed.
-Reaper
-Death Rippers
-Bane Knights.

Something like either of thows I guess. I don't like slow armies and units. I like fast and hits hard. A Warcaster that makes my guys faster sounds like a good idea. Also I like her model.

Edit:
Looking at the Factions again I realize I'm now finding my self torn between Cryx and Khador.

I strangely like Heavy Gun line Armies and Fast Assault Armies. So Knador's play style is appealing to me.

I also now realize I like almost every modle in there army. I also love all the modles in there battle force, and all of there Jacks. Winter Guard and Iron Fangs look stunning, and for Solo's they have Pitbulls in Battle Armour.

How cool is that?

But Cryx can give me a Fast Assault based army. Awsome Undead Knights, Awicked looking Spider Jacks, ect

This is really a hard choice.

Like I said, everything as a use. In games you might find an army with 1 warjack so, you bring to much to focus on killing warjacks, but you can still win.

The game is weird that way, in a way it lets you get what ever you want and you can win games and you will loose.

Iam a cryx player and will say first thing is the battle box is the best start.

1. denny the warcaster is one of the better warcaster abilitys wise
a, Her spells like crippiling grasp will turn any enemy warjack in to a slow week punching bag. Anyone you will play against will hate this.
Then you get your Bone chickens, they are not very good except they have the arcnode ability which will let you bounce spells of the which lets you cast 8" farther away.
But the slayer war jack is not very good.

It comes down to what you like more cool models or good charcters.

I don't like Denny's modle, and I don't like the modle for the Slayer.

I find I REALY like the look for the Cryx Spider Warjacks, and the fact they have a fast movement.

I don't like the T Visor helmeted Warjacks like the Slayer.

But with Khador I realy like there winter Gaurd and almost all of there Warjacks. The Destroyer and Spriggan standing out to me.

How whould a Cryx army made of Master Necrotech Mortenebra and two Harrowers play? (Then a Pistol Wraith and as many Scrap Thralls as I can fit.)

It all depends on what your goals are if you are going to try to build an army to win games with you need to stick to the armys strengths, if you are playing for fun then buy what ever you think is the coolest.
If you want speed and powerful spells cryx is where it is at, but if you want bone crushing power get khador.

I find I like a mix of both. I like armies that are fun to play on the board, but competitive enough that even if I lose I give people a run for there money. (Preferable something that can win thow helps.)

What I'm thinking is building a Cryx army around Two Harrowers. From what I understand Master Necrotech Mortenebra is a good Warcaster to pair with the Spider helljacks. Useing Her magic to buff the Harrowers.

There for if I go that route I'm thinking as many fast moveing units I can get to keep up with them. And Scrap Thralls since she let's them repair stuff.

Does this sound like a strong army list, or one more fluff/fun?

Also.

I read on the wiki about how the Harrower is immune to dieing from being pushed into water.

Is there a pushing a game mechanic for Jacks in Warmachine? Because that sounds so cool. I would make a bunch of water features and rock out cropings regardless of the army I played just because of that mechanic/things to throw jacks into.

lol

Also The Harrower tackling guys into the water is just a image I love.

Yupp, you can push, throw, do head locks, arm locks, lots of different things like that, even head butt.

Like I've been telling everyone, this game is amazing!
