Starter boxes and then...

Post by wowbagger » Thu Mar 21, 2013 7:23 am

Hi there, a quick questions. I want to buy the Khador and Cygnar starter boxes. What would be a good second buy for them? Something that makes sense with their starter casters in mind? and what kind of play does that encompas?

Thanks for the help!

Can't give much useful advise for cygnar.

But for Khador, I'd recommend a unit of Widowmarkers. They are self sufficient, useful against almost everything and fit just perfectly into the 15 point limit.

For Cygnar get the "Black 13th"

I highly suggest the black 13th for cygnar and widowmakers for khador. Both bring you up to 15 points and are pretty evenly matched in my opinion.

B13 is an offensive beast, 3 men 4 attacks... Each with a special attack and then there's a ridiculous AOE blast....

Technically its only a two man team. Watts never does anything.

I had one game where Lynch died turn 2, Ryan missed every shot she took and Watts killed the enemy caster (well, administered the final blow). It was a really weird day.

Sword Knights are another decent 4 point bump up, or a squire and any other solo you like.

Journeyman/Reinholdt can be a MAJOR pain for the khador battlebox too. You'll be able to keep your heavy and lancer safe with double arcane shields and feat, and earthquake along with a reloaded Stryker pistol can put both his 'Jacks completely out of the fight for a turn. You could even pass the charger off to Jr too if you want to be a little more liberal with your focus. A stormsmith could sub in for reinholdt as well for basically the same effect.

Thanks for all the advice! I have order the w boxes, a unit of widowmakers for khador and for cygnar the black 13th. Also a unit of long gunners for further cygnar fun.
Its nice anyways to have 2 15 point forces that are somewhat matched since i dont really know anybody around here with their own Warmachine armies (and i can use them to learn the game).
Also this gave me a chance to claim my Dark potential perk (and some free shipping)....
Cant wait for it to arrive and to start assembling/painting/playing.

Do i also have to buy something else (apart from the rule books?), like the cards, or are they included in the boxes of the units? Just to be sure I did order a template set.

Don't forget to get some dry erase markers and card protection sleeves! The cards do come with the models though, so you've got everything else you need!

I recommend at least one token set as well. They make the gameplay just so more fluid, and you won't forget about the critical buff/debuff. Plus they look really nice on the battlefield

I've had that jerk kill my choir or vassal more times then I care to remember. Setting them all on fire asap is priority one. ALL of them!

And I have been the jerk to do that :) Watts adds, if nothing else, another gun to the group. As well as a tactical option. Prowl might not always be used, but options are always good

Boomhowler's would be sweet as well. They can be played with both Cygnar and Khador. I take them in a lot of my Cygnar list.

But he misses every time.
