Dark Eldar vs IG advice

Postby keofmind » Wed Apr 04, 2012 9:09 am

Back with another concern for the tournament in my town I have a game against an IG army I remember having 2 leman russ 1 basilisk of 2-3 chickens (Sentinels) 3-4 chimeras thought now that I recommend placing all in reserve and try to give it a contest in the last turn that hatred can give me good advice and IG think anyone in the store like my army they always want i lose but their misfortune i won all my games.

I'm confused.. you want advice for winning against an imperial guard list you already beat?
If you could give us details about your own list, we could tell you how to bump up your effectiveness against vehicle heavy lists if that's what you're looking for. :?
If you could figure out how to seperate your sentences and use a bit of punctuation, it might help us so we can help you better in the future.

I'm better at forming strategies and making lists than actually applying tactics to a game, you'll have to ask the others for that.
What I can suggest is making your own capture and control objective as far away as possible from the enemy to take advantage of our speed.
Don't worry about grabbing those objectives till the later turns and focus on killing and not getting killed till then.
Make use of cover, even for vehicles with flickerfields if you can get that sweet 4+ cover save.
Haywire blasters are sweet, use them on the scariest thing you can, and then the next scariest if you have some more.
That frees up your dark lances and blasters and wyches to try and take out anything else you might be worried about.
If you can get your wyches into a nice melee against some guardsmen it'll keep them safer than not being in combat at all.

If you dropped the hekatrix's blast pistol and the solarite from the scourge unit, you'd have more than enough points for haywire grenades for your wyches and maybe give them a little more teammates or some better upgrades elsewhere.

Against Imperial Guard, it's all about getting that alpha strike away from them.

If you can get first turn, even if it's objectives, I say do it, because if you can shake up his Chimeras and Leman Russ turn one and pop his basilisk by the end of two, his options for retaliation are very limited.

The keys to this match, I'd think, would be how effectively you can deny him cover saves on those Haywire and Lance shots, and whether or not you time the dismount of those warrior squads correctly (which may simply be not doing it at all).

Also, multi-assault his brains out. If you can hit the sentinels, and a squad or two of guardsmen with your Wyches, they have paid themselves back two or three times over already, and may even be able to move on to future targets, unlike if they had only assaulted the one, overran, then got shot up next turn.

PS. What's with the Talos?

Quick note on multi-assaulting vehicles and infantry with wyches: the infantry models should always be the focus of the brunt of your wyches attacks in the first round of assault, for three reasons:

1. Infantry models, due to the number of attacks they get, are by default more dangerous to your wyches than any vehicle, as Wyc hes don't care much about the quality of the attack coming at them, just the number of them.

Further adding to your survivability, you now have a much higher kill count, increasing your odds of winning combat, and thus having your opponent, as opposed to yourself, run away.

2. Vehicles cannot suffer sweeping advances, so when you do win combat, which you most likely will against guard, you are not put at risk of being exposed next turn to enemy fire.

3. To take down a walker with haywire grenades requires the attention of your full squad, and of course fully neutralizing a threat before you move onto the next one achieves by far the greatest effects.
