Just a few questions about the tactica, feel free to comment and let me know what the go is.
I was looking through all the stuff we have on here, all posts made about certain units, different weapon choices and lists is there a place we can put this all together? (Might also take a load off some people having to search threw their old threads, eg Zero and Chief quoting themselves daily in others threads)
We have a very vague Tactica stickied at the moment. Could we get someone to tidy this up, maybe finish it or at least add more to it so our new members have somewhere to go straight off the bat? It is quite a basic but very well written tactica im just thinking if we could get it all on a page and THEN have comments so we dont have to search threw 15 pages to find what weapon is best to take with wracks or something for example.
We could also use some of the threads on here done by Zero and Skari of their 20 battles to greatness and add some of the tactics used, what pays off against certain armies/army types and how to use your squads effectively perhaps?
We have a lot of old heads here that would bring a lot of experience and strategy so why not use them?
Just my 2 cents.

The tactics thread we have at the top of our forum should suffice. It's just that we're too lazy to put more stuff into it. It also contains most things people need to know anyways. You also can't finish a tactics section, as tactics aren't set in stone and keep evolving over time. That and much of what you want put up is also very situational; no player is the same as another and even a battle will have things change, depending on the situation therein. Azzebo's tactics and unit review still stand up too, if it ain't broke no need to fix it!
The threads done by Zero and Skari are also on the first page of threads, so there's the easy access right off the bat!
And a lot of the time it's players posting lists and asking for input, not advice against certain armies/players armies(I do admit though, the same things keep popping up again and again and sometimes it gets annoying having to repeat the same thing over and over again). Also, I've found personally responding to someone's post often gets through to them more than a generic stickied thread; after all, a message addressed to you specifically tends to make you pay more attention!
I could still make a thread made for DE noobs specifically though, shouldn't be too hard.

I'm going to copy/paste most of the stuff I've written previously (things that are too long to repeat) and put them in the thread. Other than that, someone will either have to make a new thread addressing what you want, or you'd have to contact Azeebo about getting all the tactics posted in that thread on the first page.

Yeah the main idea behind the boards is to hold discussions... so we can post threads and replies as if we're having a discussion IRL.. except with a few restrictions. Hanging around a gaming club where alot of people pick up the hobby.. you'll see the same questions pop up too. I don't mind helping people out even if the same questions keep showing up as long as we can have discussions like grown ups. Even if they can be lead to read a sticky somewhere.. I think starting up a convo will make them feel more involved with the boards. It helps to get new people around to shake things up and help you look at things from a new angle.

That's true... My only issue is when people consistently ask why a certain unit is bad, and then try to argue that they're not, or people make lists with said bad unit in it and say they want advice on making it competitive. I'm not saying that happens here, but it does in the Chaos Space Marines section, even though there's actually a stickied thread about why 1k Sons are a bad unit...

They probably love the models and fluff so much they're pushing to find a glimmer of hope in it's viability. This would be the kind of person to make incredible sacrifices of effectiveness just for fluff and models. (I might *clears throat* be one of these people) The rules sometimes feel fluffy enough to also be something they need to include no matter how ill-advised it is. When we tell them why something isn't a good unit or setup for one, they don't know what we know.. they haven't experienced all the discussions and matches leading to these conclusions and are probably digging for more info. I do understand where you're coming from, and there's something similar that does bother me a little bit which is when people try out units in one or two games and assume it's a generally awesome unit. But then it's just a matter of time for them to either get into the math aspect of the hobby or to experience enough games for the units to show their true colors eventually. Luckily I'm patient enough. Oh that.. and people who dismiss the math part cause the game is "random".

The main thing that irks me is when people think a certain unit is good because it kills a lot, without actually thinking about the cost. They think that (for example) Grotesques are the greatest thing in the world because their giant unit of 10 killed a Space Marine unit and a Rhino in their (very inexperienced) friend's army.

This is a made up situation, because I can't actually think of any such situations with Dark Eldar, but it happens plenty with CSM
Though in my mind, they were walking it across the board.
I guess the kinds of people that are attracted to DE have more brains than those of other armies.
An example of this with Chaos is pretty much the same situation, except it's 20 Berzerkers and Kharn the Betrayer. He claimed it was a good unit because his friends always focused on it and go nailed by his other units of Berzerkers. Then they would focus on those units, and then this unit would eventually hit them. He and his friends were quite new, and we tried to explain to him that when they become more experienced, there's no way they'll pay attention to it until more immediate threats are dealt with. Don't remember how it worked out though.

Oh man... if my opponents never learned anything.. 40k would be depressing. I think a single spawn would make better distractions than a unit like that... and you probably don't see those very often.

Alright I'm now making a generalized thread mostly for starting DE players now. It's a work in progress so try not to post any responses yet, as it breaks things up and makes it a bit more confusing. Should be done within a day or 2.

Not sure what you're on about there, but I'm saying because of their Rage they kind of have to charge that Land Raider, and furthermore, they can also do nothing to that Land Raider.
