The Last Stand at Fort Command.

Post by green-skins » Mon Mar 30, 2009 7:21 am

The finest Ultramarine squad is getting ready to defend the half destroyed Emperor's fort while the Emperor himself is trying to evacuate from the horrific Ork green tide approaching at speed from the north.
The marines are fighting to the death so that the Emperor can escape from this world, unharmed.

The fort is hand made and painted by myself, it took over 100 hours to build and complete it, including all the detail ranging from the text on the missiles to the (MiniWarGaming) green stuff, sculptured and painted on the piece of terrain. The dead Imperial Guardsman and the Imperial Eagle was fun to create and paint which I though just gave the diorama the finishing touch.
The Ultramarines also took a long time to complete which fitted in well with the fort.
The fort is made from balsa wood it was then undercoated in very dark grey which i mixed with sand to give it some texture. When that dried some of the sand was falling off so i had to put watered down PVA glue over it. A heavy dry brush of Codex grey was added, Then a lighter dry brush of fortress grey. Finally a super light dry brush of a mix of skull white and fortress grey. The water pipes hanging out of the platform were made from cotton buds (ear cleaners) which is really cool.
Hope you like it.

That is awsome  .

I like the rockets.

Only little thing is that this is a terrainpiece rather than a diorama I think.
Kind Regards,

Awesome terrain piece. throw in some orks and you got yourself a sweet diorama

Hey all.
I forgot to say that the missile on picture 7 is also coming through the other side of the wall . You can't see it because of the lighting. but it's there.
The orks fired the missile but it didn't explode  because they have crummy equipment and weapons.

They appear to be painted in the "old-school" style of Ultramarines (ie. 2nd edition/Rogue Trader/early to mid 1990's). At that time, almost all ultramarine weapon casings were painted red.
