Agreed, I wouldn't run a Lord at all if I didn't have to. I'm not too keen on Daemon Prince's either. May have to try one of your other suggestions. Is there an IC worth his points in your opinion?
The only IC worth their points in the entire codex are Sorcerers with Mark of Slaanesh and Lash of Submission and to a lesser extent Kharn the Betrayer.

Because he's the power creep Magic deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Because he can tank it. Because he's not balanced. He's a board sweeping powerhouse. A win condition pull.
Can't really bring myself to including one Slaanesh character into my army just for a cheesey spell that everyone seems to be in love (or hate) with. Just as well take a Lash Prince for the points, but I'm sure you already knew that. I'll continue to take my chances with an average of 10+ power weapon attacks from the Khorne Lord first.
Lash of Submission is hardly a cheesy spell. It might have been quite powerful in 4th edition but 5th changed that quite a bit, too bad it's never managed to drop that bad reputation which it no longer deserves.
So long as you still enjoy playing Chaos Marines though and you don't mind the glaring weaknesses the Khorne Daemon Weapon Lord comes with then all the power to you. Myself, I can't abide the current codex. My Night Lords have sat comfortably in their foam trays in my closet for the past year, and they will continue to do so until we get a new Codex.

My Iron Warriors and I feel much the same. We still manage to take the field occasionally though. Hopefully the new Codex will come out sooner than the rumor mills are saying. Maybe then I can kick the Khorne Lord to the curb and get back to some siege warfare!

I think everyone has hit the key points here. T-sons can be useful if you can run them, and their sorceror, up in a Rhino, jump-out, blast something, then get back in ASAP or move down your opponents line. Otherwise they are just too slow to be effective. They cannot be useful. Park some Plague Marines on objectives. Throw as much Khorne as you can get into Rhinos or better yet Land Raiders and assault your enemy. Land Raiders are extremely overpriced and 1-2 units of Berzerkers is enough. Other troops should be filled with Plagues. Stay away from Spawn - only useful if you get the right spell off.

I never said that, I just said that what they say is usually whats best to take, what you take may be fun or fluffy isnt the best, and what I keep reading from what you put is the option you chose was better than what they said you should use, guess its all tone that we're missing here

Didn't mean to come off that way. In fact I agree with most of their opinions. I just have to question some of their absolute statements. If used correctly, and with a little luck many of the units they are dismissing can be quite effective. I guess I don't always play the most rock-hard lists. If that's all I wanted to do then I would be taking this game way too seriously.

18 AP2 shots not useful? Hmmm
Where are you getting 18 AP2 shots from?
This.
And you can get 18 AP3 shots for a minimum of 277pts not including the rhino. How is that useful at all?
You play with cover on your board don't you? That pretty much negates the entire effectiveness of those AP3 shots right there. Their single strength is practically worthless.
For 277 points we can get: A Daemon Prince and an Obliterator with 27 points to spare. 3 Obliterators with 52 points to spare. 2 Predators. A Defiler and a Termicide. Real troops that actually do something.
All of which are far more useful than 1k Sons ever will be with the current book.
It basically comes down to the abundance of cover negating their only strength, not being able to take any special weapons, being forced to take a really expensive sorcerer and being Slow and Purposeful.
I'm curious to know how those 18 AP3 shots are worth it. Do your opponents not use cover and you somehow wreck 277 points worth of guys in a single shooting phase? Because you're within 12" of them and suck in assault; remember that.
