i believe the oldest codex is Tau now as they still have the old point value army thing. its the one where points are in unit description. then pretty sure it goes Black templar, Dark Angels and chaos.

So if I got this correct the Tau are the oldest, then Black Templar's, then Dark Angles, Then Chaos,..... Then how do we need a update, please explain.

Things like spawn, possessed, thousand sons, Chaos Lord, Raptors,Termiantors, land raiders, Sorcerors generally, summoned deamons all a very iffy on being even remotely comepttitive. their more jsut their for fun or fluffy use. the problem? their all about 75% of our codex.
Black Templars Tau Empire Eldar Dark Angels Chaos Space Marines Orks Chaos Daemons Space Marines Imperial Guard Space Wolves Tyranids Blood Angels Dark Eldar Grey Knights Sisters of Battle Necrons
Also for the record it is a little over 4 years old.

Because he's the power creep Magic deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Because he can tank it. Because he's not balanced. He's a board sweeping powerhouse. A win condition pull.
"I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness."
Oh it's not the age of the Chaos codex that makes it need an update so bad, it was the quality of the book in the first place. It's needed to be replaced since day one.

Which actually isn't that bad, considering how long the Ork and DE books took to get updated (10+ years!)
yup, Eldar, Chaos, DA, & Daemons were the last Codi (proper plural?) to be printed in 4th with 5th so close. then all shown to suffer as the power creep crawls to the stratosphere.

The Eldar book is still going strong - unless 6th really screws them over they won't need an update for a while.
Daemons and their Fatecrusher were going strong until about the time of Grey Knights release, though they definitely deserve an update (preferably to be "updated" back into our codex, but hey).
Dark Angels, like Daemons, only has one build too, but it seems to me to be much more fluffy than that of Daemons. Personally, I woundn't think it needs updating until right before the Eldar.
Chaos... well, they have one build, it's not great, and it has nothing to do with fluff.
