Anyone in here playing this? Fave builds? Excited about the new ships coming out?

I have a friend who does. I like the game and it's bigger brother Armada, but I don't have miniatures yet. I know nihil about the new ships and how to build an army list on this game, but I enjoy playing the TIE Fighters in X-Wing and the Star Destroyers in Armada. It's interesting that they are kind of polar opposites in their respective games: the TIE are fast and nimble, but fragile and have relatively weaker weaponry while the Star Destroyers are very large, massively armed and armored, but with the manoeuvrability of a Galapagos Islands turtle.

Don't forget proton rockets, for a 5-die attack... Short-ranged but nasty in the hands of Tycho Celchu or others...

I've honestly never experimented with prockets actually as I've always tried to keep things as cheap as possible by doing the Chaardan refit on the A-Wings. It might be worth a try though as five attack dice sounds really nasty!
Reason it works is because Tycho can still do actions when stressed. So, do something fancy to get close then pop off a focus then drop those PRockets. I also throw in Munitions Failsafe in case I whiff.

now that star trek attack wing unfortunately died I have been looking at this. perhaps one of each of the starters. and extra X wing for the different cards and a couple of extra ties. again for the cards. but I dunno yet. but I would love to do some custom painting on the models

I have played a little bit to the game and it's a lot of fun. I only played the basic rules of X-Wing, but I had a great time. More advanced rules are more complicated, but make the game richer. It's also not too expensive and I know that your budget is tight, so it's a good choice. As for painting, they are pre-painted in a rather basic way. I don't even think you would have to strip them if you want to paint the models to your tastes.

Yeah, I see a lot of repaints out there. Also, the cool part is you can pull the rulebook for free from the FFG website then buy the dice and the maneuver templates separately.

So, got in a couple games last night. Picked up a pair of TIE Defenders last week, so built a list to try them out.

Countess Ryad with the TIE/X7 title and Outmanuever
Onyx Squadron pilot with the TIE/D title and an Ion Cannon
Royal Guard Pilot (TIE Interceptor) with the RGT title, Shield Upgrade, targeting computer and Veteran Instincts.

Went up against a guy running Darth Vader with Predator and a Decimator with Palpatine and Issard. Needless to say, I got smoked. Just couldn't generate enough shooting, did not compensate well for the movement range of the big ship.

Second game, broke out my Scum list (2 Protectorate ships and 3 Z-95s) against the same guy. Did better, vaped Vader in one turn of focused shooting then had the Decimator down to 2 hull before he finally finished me off.

Had fun last night. just need to play more.

2 more games last night, ended up winning both; one by one hull point and the other handily.

First game took my Vader and Decimator (yes, I copied someone.) against some Scum running Bossk, a Y-Wing with a twin laser turret and a QuadJumper. Ended up a slugfest between the Y-Wing and the Decimator, I won due to lucky dice on my part.

Second game I took the Defender list but modified it. Kept Ryad, replaced the Onyx with Rexler in a TIE-D and replaced the TIE-Interceptor with a plain TIE Fighter flown by Backstabber. He was worth the points, my opponent let him get on the flank and he gets an extra attack die if he is outside the defender's fire arc. Opponent took Corran Horn in an E-Wing and a K-Wing. Corran and Rexler killed each other then Ryad's K-turn Circus and Backstabber just hosed down the K-Wing.

So, I had issues with finding sleeves to hold the smaller upgrade cards. A buddy suggested these, they hold 10 cards/sets of cards per page...
