Guide of Eregion/Rivendell

Many players been wondering how this host works? perhaps its a good idea to start getting a new look at them (I will add elrond´s alliance as part of the force)

Although local players dont use him part as the army for fluff wise according to the 3rd age of Middle Earth, I will start with the high elf king of the Second Age, Gil Galad.

High Elf King Gil-Galad

Pros:
- really high fight (best of all good side models)
- Really good defence (can be even increased with shield being hard as kill as a dwarf)
- Aeglos
- Causes Terror
- his stand fast
- his cost
- courage
- armoured horse
- good amount of attacks and wounds

Cons:
- low strength (random Strength like any other hero despite his epicness)
- Low Fate and will (his worst in the profile)
- got no range weapon nor magic

If you want to get a pretty decent point hero with alot of melee potencial being able to handle powerfull characters and monsters (except the dark lord himself) this is the guy youre after.
Gil Galad is the high king for his own right, and to fight with him is to call certaint defeat.
Use this guy where the fight is thickest, since his fight value of 9 offers you almost total assurance you will win anyfight he goes by, even including versus those annoying mordor trolls to the point of even match the Dark Lord in fighting prowess. (of course all depends on the dice rolls as usual) and his defence is really decent but still if you want to pay some more point for a shield, i beleive its a must and it also means he can substain pretty much anykind of beatin from random army units with ease, just like a dwarf :P.
In this latest updates, gamesworkshop decided to give him the option to ride an armoured steed, another awesome choice by a few extra points. If you want to make him even more a beast in combat and chew through ranks, heres a healthy choice of that kind and im sure the old King will be of good use in your army.

Also for side effects the king got 3 awesome skills as refered above.
First Aeglos, was I complaining about random strength problems on this epic model? well aeglos can partly solve your problem, a spear type weapon that adds +1 to wound vs anything... man you mostly need 2/3/4+ to wound against anything that in file and rank troops from lowest defence to really hard killing models and even the mightiest heroes you normally need 5+ and such which makes this model deadly carrying this weapon, increasing even more his fighting skills.
Second is Terror, dont be afraid sending him to the front of the line facing evil models, his terror rule will assure that will not be likely to evil models will have courage to charge him and instead quake in fear.
And third and last, probably the most significant of all, Gil Galad is the only model in your army (and of a few that pocess this skill in the game) of having his improved stand fast area for breaking army courage tests. Not that elves are specially coward, but who doesn´t like a 12" radius stand fast area to make sure your 100% in line no matter what? :P
On final note heres whats wrong with this king, his will and fate. This king of old is a beast in combat, but hes not so likely to be that good vs magic, magic side effects are the worst for Gil Galad, like the nazguls trickering magic and making him useless in combat with paralyze and such.
Make sure when youre facing enemy armies that this guy dont entirely goes alone and less likely facing powerfull magic casters.
Also this king despite having awesome defence, hes kinda limited to 1 fate point and 2 wounds before he lose the last and falls to the ground, hes good like I said before, but he isn´t that good when turns to roll bad on your side and take a beating from monsters rent rule to pierce his armour to easier wound him.
He can hold a beating for a turn or two from a monster source like a troll, but dont test much your luck that this guy will live on the 2nd round of combat if he loses the combat again.

So as long you keep beating openents hes really nice, soon you start rolling bad well hes not that good to absorv damage like other heroes like elrond or glorfindel just simply because he got 2 few fate points to cheat death.

And of course you got a small upgrade per elven warrior to give them a fight value of 6, which randomly increases even more the fighting tie ups in your favour.

firstly he has the same fight as sauron...and the balrog has the higher fight

secondly his will is average for a named hero, everyone has to watch out for nazguls

he also has 3 wounds just like most other named heroes

another bonus is that you can buy him an armoured horse and can make your high elf warriors have a higher fight value as well (for 1pt each model)

old Gil-Galad;

had Fight 8/- (only change on his stat line)
his spear caused terror (which he already had as a special rule) nothing else
he was fearless, he isn't now

current Gil-Galad;

is Fight 9/3+ (making him on par with Sauron, not sure why he has a shooting value)
his spear gives him +1 to Wound (and since he is S4 its pretty good)
is not fearless
plus has the options for kings guard (better fight elves)
and an armoured horse (pretty good now that you can support him with elven cavalry from elronds household, not in his warband though)

so the changes aren't that different and they improved him greatly
