Ad overkill

Post by baummonster » Fri Nov 02, 2012 3:58 pm

Don't you guys think you're shooting a bit over the top lately? ;)

Just clicked the recent batrep and almost got flooded with ads. The actual video only makes up for like 1/4th of the entire video page's top half, the rest is almost completely covered with six different, partially flashing (capital sin imho) advertisements.
Don't get me wrong here, I can understand placing some adverts on a site to push sales. But this? I mean come on :D

As a somewhat negative side effect, at least from my experience, it's getting extremely difficult to "tab back" into the video page without accidentally clicking anything and getting thrown out.

m2c .. keep up your otherwise awesome job!

It's good feedback. Sometimes I forget what it's like when you aren't logged in and not a Vault member.

I'll see what I can do (although some of those ads are temporary).

Imho simply blocking them is not an ideal option. It neither helps me or MWG, because I still have to deal with the ad-orientated layout and all their efforts go to waste.

I'd like to make a few suggestions:
- remove all the different ads for ebooks, DVDs etc and replace them with a single one that displays a random one each visit. They all serve the same purpose anyway
- replace the animated, perma-looped .gif ads with one that is still animated, but only plays once without any user input (mouseover or anything). Having something constantly flashing can be extremly irritating/annoying
- make it that clicking the ads opens up a new window/tab, so the current video etc doesn't get interrupted

regards

Good suggestions, and they do give me some ideas.
