The large amount of spammers on this forum...

Post by Legend Hoods » Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:45 am

I recently noticed the increasing number of spammers on this forum, who place adverts about viagra and stuff...

Maybe you could give these guys IP bans? It's kinda irritating to have like 3 useless viagra topics every forum.

I think the REALLY obvious way to fix it...

Requirement to make a thread = 2 posts in someone else's thread.

ie, they need to go into other threads, make a post, find another, make another post... Then they can make a thread...

There are alot of forums which use this, and they also need to usually wait like 12 hours or something before they can still make the thread.

It's only one spammer, whose just spamming alot.

I blame mods on their failure to react to such a fatal threat.

There's always going to be spam. If a post is obviously spam just don't click on it, or report it and wait for the cavalry.

You're quick to forget that we have lives too. The threads you actually see are a very small percentage of those that are posted here everyday. We just can't simply watch the forum 100% of the time, which results in one or two getting past us. If you see threads that have been around, report them to the moderators and we'll take care of them.
At any rate, the site admins are working on a solution to the bot problem. Whether it will result in mandatory posts on other people's topics or some other mechanism has yet to be revealed, but you will most likely know when it happens.

I think that having mods in all different time zones (not just northern Hemisphere) is a good idea, because 99% of the time, I am the only one ever online during the day in NZ, whereas I'm usually never online when the rest of you are. And of course, I have recently reported atleast 40 threads which I saw and got to fast. but of course, they posted them at a time when Only I could see them.
