Anti Advert bot idea

Post by DeadVanitan » Thu Jun 03, 2010 5:00 am

Recently, advertisement bots have been coming more often, i don't like it one bit, so i have an idea.

If you want to post a picture, write more than 200 words in a post or post a link, you must have at least 5 posts.

Why five posts, so newbs can quickly get posting pictures of stuff and maybe a chance there'll be significantly less bots as human users will not check the rules, and possibly ignore the fact that they aren't posting successfully.

I don't know if this is the right place, but i hope this suggestion is taken into thought
HammerOfTheEmperor: "RyanGuy, was that really necessary?"
jackmrnorris94: "Ryan guy is always right."
SinisterUrge: "Flame On Johnny Storm, Flame On."

Could take a while before an admin reads this so please have patience if nobody replies to your idea yet;)
I like the idea, but I don't know if it's easy to fix.

The only problem I see is that the bots are spamming topics under 200 words and doing about 20 right away, so it would basically come in under the radar.

Perhaps if you had a system where all new accounts HAD to make a post in the Welcome board it would block out the spammers?

What's wrong with the other thing?
just kidding!

I'm not sure, does MWG have this anti-bot thing where you have to enter a word into a box while registrating so they can see if it's a bot?

Maybe this can be part of the idea, force a few newbies to introduce themselves.

Maybe requiring a 5 post count just to make a thread in the first place. I never see bots respond to other threads, just create their own. And if they can't create the first one it can't reach that 5 post count.

I see some here and there reviving old topics, but not nearly as many to the ones taht create their own threads.

It is 08:39am here in the UK, and im just starting my day, revising for my exam, When i come on here to find tons of porn adverts and what not.

I am in all favor for this idea about the 5 posts thing.

They could always use captcha codes. (The thing A Luna is talking about). I have never seen a bot get past one of those.

I saw one on a sight that directly asked the person:

Are you a SPAM bot?

and the ddb was automatically set to 'yes'

ao everyone had to change it to no, or they would be blocked as a spammer.
