Event Horizon: Warhammer 40k Prequel?

Post by Rust » Fri Sep 21, 2012 9:01 pm

Another place I frequent on the net was having a discussion about NASA's recent announcement about experimenting with Warp Drive (No joke), and somebody posted a clip from the movie Event Horizon. It has been years since I saw that movie, so I naturally sat down and soaked up as much of the film as I could via YouTube.

It hit me, watching it - especially the ending bits - that what happened to the Event Horizon and what was unleashed sounded an awful lot like the dangers of the Immaterium and especially with what happened with some characters and the ship itself, seemed like it had been tainted by the Warp. The fact the dimension it entered and returned to is described as "A place of pure chaos" doesn't help matters in that regard. :D

Maybe this is old news to this new time player, but does anyone else get a Warhammer 40k vibe from this movie?

I remember the movie vaguely, and I pulled up the wikipedia article. I doesn't say 40k was an influence, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't. If it was or not, I think you make a great point that it fits the setting well. Nice post.

Check out my workshop blog where I document my learning to paint, customize and collect all kinds of nerdy stuff- mostly 40k at the moment.

Well, in the real world, the science behind a warp drive is not you going into a seperate dimension, but that you're in a bubble that compresses 'space' in front of it, it's still passing through the space.

I'd suggest that the thing that influenced "Event Horizon" the most was the 1981 Roger Corman film "Galaxy of Terror".

It's a remake...
