ide have to say (unfortunatly) one of the starter armies is going to be...space marines and yes we all know what chapter...ultramarines why? you might ask, to my recolection they have been in every single starter box, they are the poster child of games workshop (again...unfortunatly) ide say its a deffinate that ultramarines will be one of the starter armies, for the other side ide say it wont be dark eldar for the simple reason they require a decent knowledge and amount of skill to play and would be too punishing for new players ide say it wouldent be an army that has allready been included in a starter box either ide say it is an army that has a good or decent codex to date so not chaos marines or deamons or tau or sisters not even tryanids if i had to put my money on an army ide say iether eldar or necrons mainly necrons because they have a good (but not op) codex they have a brand new range of fantastic looking models but mainly plot advancement with the new edition of the necron codex new stories, plots and back story has arrisen and advancment in the main plot line of the 40k universe is slowly falling into line with the newer codecies (on a side note even the 40k novels are advancing beyond the current 40k plot line the latest book ive been re-reading established that assualt on black reach happened nearly 60 years ago in comparrison to its current time)
2nd Edition was Blood Angels in the starter 3rd Edition was Black Templars Also the poster child of Rogue Trader was Crimson Fists
The whole Ultramarines thing is far more recent.

Because he's the power creep Magic deserves, but not the one it needs right now. Because he can tank it. Because he's not balanced. He's a board sweeping powerhouse. A win condition pull.
It'll prolly be Dark Angels and Chaos because the new Chaos rumors are somewhere just before the new rules in July and there's been talk of Cultists so sans power armor on most things...

If it was Chaos vs. Dark Angels, I'd be extremely happy. Dark Angels are one of the (vastly) superior Chapters (fluff wise), and new Chaos Space Marines, with a good codex that allows me to build a legitimate Alpha Legion or Word Bearers army would make me happy beyond belief.
