Dwarves in 40K

Post by Greystoke » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:21 pm

I am new to the game so forgive me if this is a tired topic for others. I want to know what happened to the dwarves. I read some old Rogue Trader books that showed them as 'squats' but that didn't seem that great to me. Are dwarves extinct by the time 40K takes place? If that is the case, does that mean there are now Lizard men or undead or beastmen or ogres...(you see what I'm getting at). I understand that it is a different game and all, but so many other races carry over with little apparent change. I just thought it would be good to see Dwarves and the tech they could come up with.

If I were to add them to the universe they would be average hand to hand but have wicked armor and saves because of it. Their mech would be very strong but still oriented towards hand to hand as opposed to ranged weapons. They would also have reflective energy fields to bounce lasers back at the enemy. Maybe immune to psykers...perhaps that would be a bit much.

Anyway, if anyone knows the real reason why Dwarves and others are not part of the 40K universe I would love to know.

They weren't serious enough for the grim, dark future of the 41st millenium so the nids' were allowed to snack on them. They also didn't sell very well.

references to squats that prooves GW hasn't 100% outlawed them from canon

-current White Dwarf
-Inquisitor Wars trilogy
-Ravenor

oh and by the way.

ogres=IG ogryn
undead (mainly TK)=necrons
lizard men=exodite eldar (as close as I can think)

and you basically just described CSMs/SMs.

Undead are also those who are infected by a plague from Nurgle. Though, they have no models - Necrons are kinda-sorta their place takers.

I haven't read the new nids codex, but are squats even mentioned in the new tyranid codex?

Probebly not...Nid's devouring them wasn't serious fluff it was just how GW explained it off that they were ending the army.

Yeah,t he Squats for invaded and turned from Dwarven muscle to Dwarven biomass. Can't can I miss them, though. Even if they did bring back the Squats, no one would play them. (on a mass market scale, like Orks or IG)

I'm sorry...Orks or IG?

IG is definitly a more popular army but i'm almost insulted that you put IG over SMs! :P

Of course, I'm not meaning to imply IG sells more than the SM, but just throwing out popular armies. Squats will have as many players as those who play the Steel Legion. (Or is the the DKOK? Whichever one costs thousands to make)

Nah, I believe squats would be on par with Tau if GW really made them interesting and unique, not just comical.

I don't think a new race is needed. At all. All the armies are unique and allow for a different ways of fighting. Instead of introducing new races (or, reintroducing) the existing races should be updated.

any new races will just be brought in under the tau, as they ever expand and share the glory of the greater good amongst those wise enough to shed ignorance.

In the end, they all do.

But most expensive is resin ones (Elysians, I'M LOOKING AT YOU), or the OOP ones (Praetorians). Then metal.

I think I got here to late, still hoping though.

On Topic:I think GW bringing in a new army would be extremely bad. Hope they don't.
And, any new races will be brought under Tau.

Reiterating what was already said doesn't do much good.
And, any new races will be brought under Tau.
Unlikely.
