While it's nice to see Commander Spam get a bit of a nerf to add some diversity (I am also assuming other aspects of the army will get a proper balancing), my interest in this is not in relation to balancing the T'au. This shows a potential for similar restrictions across armies. For instance, Custodes Shield Captains on bikes, Tyranid Hive Tyrants, et al.

I'm very curious.

Commander spam is still possible with auxiliary support detachments if you're willing to sacrifice CP, but I think that's a fair trade.

But can't you only have 3 detachments in a 2k game and the auxillary supports would technically count as a detachment, right? Don't have the rulebook in reach to check, lol. Either ways, the best of what the Tau has to offer is in the stratagems so I think it'll push for them to take more troops to maximize on the detachments with more CP. This I'm ok with.

I was under the impression that 3 detachments wasn't actually a rule, just a suggested limit for 2k point tournaments for organizers to consider. Alas, I also don't have my rulebook on me.

But yes, if it is still possible it definitely comes with a disadvantage given how good the stratagems are. I'm really excited to face off against my friend now and see what he's going to take!

There are currently no limitations in how many detachments you can field, so long as you have the points to pay for the units within them.

But for matched play and most tournaments, they limit it to 3 for 2k as suggested by page 214. It's not a hardline rule, but I think it's something I would get used to.

In case anyone missed it, the forgebane announcement also confirmed a Necron Codex before the end of march, and teased some of the new Dynasty traits (i.e. "Codes")
The Mephrit Dynasty's Solar Fury trait seems particularly awesome, giving all weapons one additional AP when half range or less.

Not going to lie, those all look kinda crap except for the movement ones. That looks kinda awesome for making long range charges. Seems like every race has a "re-roll 1s in shooting" now.

I think the Sun Fury combined with Tesla can be quite strong against hordes and medium infantry. And with the Tesla it is a real charge detterent, with a charge most likely to happen within rapid fire range and exploding on 6's. You'll see that one the most if the HQ Special Characters aren't as special.

Tau codex leaks (will delete if breaking fofurm rules);
https://i0.wp.com/www.3plusplus.net/wp- ... 1c04J0.jpg

A lot of points drops there so infantry heavy player sshould be happy.

I can see suit players being upset about the commander limit though, given that normal Crisis suits are only BS4+. The Leman Russes in the index were unplayably bad for a similar reason and they got a buff that Crisis Suits seemingly haven't. Not to mention all the -1 to hit buffs that other armies can bring.
