Cool! (However, the dreadnought is still waiting in the background... ;-))

What kind of gold did you use?

(Over white prime) Balthasar gold > Auric Armour Gold > Washed with a layer of Nuln Oil. It's a cheap, basic way of doing it, but my first few were done this way, and I decided to keep the theme. I find a quick wash with an appropriate colour is a great way to hide brush strokes as it tends to smooth out the finish of the paint job, which is why I did it on my first Terryn knight back in the day.

I'm about to order a Leviathan Dreadnought. May order an Osiron as well, or a couple more Castellax, and do a month of dreadnoughts to finally have an excuse to finish that poor guy.

I admit to being a little concerned about the red. It's, like, my third model I did the airbrushing on, myself, AND I was using a 'new' paint. All my previous stuff was air-brushed by a friend, using Forge World's clear Angron red. But this was done using Tamiya's clear red gloss acrylic paint. It's a little glossier than I was expecting in the pictures (due to the flash), but I'm happy it's still good enough. I'm really pleased with how the white and black came out, contrasting and breaking up the red so it looks more like a Thousand Sons vehicle, instead of a glorified Blood Angels vehicle.
I don't know why or if it's just me, but I have a preference for glossy metallic paint schemes on Thousand Sons and Alpha Legion.

Beyond just the look, which I do really like, I also like the distinctness it provides. Very, very few people are willing to go so far as to paint their models this way. None of the GW armies even suggest such a paint scheme, so you generally have to look into Horus Heresy armies and Forge World before you even start to see this kind of paint scheme.

It stands out, but it is a fair amount of work!

More work completed. This time, the magnetized Predator. I could spend a bit more time adding a few extra details, maybe trying to fix a few niggling bugs about it, but I'm satisfied, overall.

The biggest issue I have with it is that the white seems overall to appear flat. In person, you can see that it's an ulthuan grey with white highlight, which helps, but it still seems off, over such large surfaces. On the front plate, I tried using a fenrisian grey highlight in areas. I wasn't too pleased, at first, but over time, I did like how it appeared to add just a shade of 'weathering' to the edges. I might touch up other areas. Especially the lascannon sponsons. I'm going to leave the lascannon and autocannon barrels bare for now, as I plan on using them as a base to experiment with heat stressing... When I feel ready!

I may take a bit of time next week to add a bit of gold trimming, and a few extra decals. They might help break up the white a bit.

I also got more new toys in the mail. I got them from Shapeways, from a fairly popular artist. Sadly, I don't remember his name, right now. The scarab symbols are pre-curved for shoulder pads, and he has lots of different designs for Marines.

The round shields have a bolt pistol built into them, and will be used as combat shields for a unit of assault marines for my Thousand Sons. The tower shields will be used to make a unit of breachers.

The shields require a bit of work to get attached. It's not perfect, either. I'd like to trim off more from the arm, so that it sits closer to the elbow and, thus, closer to the body, but then it starts to butt against the shoulder pad. May look into using Mk IV shoulder pads with less pronounced edges. Not sure how it'll look if I file off some of the shoulder pad to make a recess for the shield. As well, the bolter arm doesn't line up with the recess, so there's extra blu-tac right now to push it out. Will likely have to use green stuff to prop the arm properly.

Worth the effort, though.

Yeah, definitely worth the effort. Your breacher test mini looks pretty rad.

Nothing really special of note to report this week. I took a bit of a break, to be honest. However, a particular Forge World order did come in, so it is time. May will be the month of the Dreadnought, as I finally pull him out of the background.

Yes, I will finally be painting Ocellus the Patient. In the background for so long, it will be time for Ocellus to shine.

As a reward (and the part of the Forge World order that kicked this Dreadnought May off) is Mighty Gallus, Wallbreaker, Composer.

Before the disastrous first contact mission that saw him interred, Gallus was larger than life. He bore a presence, both physically and with his personality. Large, powerful, jovial, and bombastic, he often found himself the center of many social gatherings and, in war, was an accomplished siege specialist and master of a company of artillery vehicles. He also had an artistic side that came out most when he was alone. Despite his outgoing nature, he treasured the opportunity to be alone, and took advantage of those times to become a composer of music and an avid player of the violin. At least, through the use of a specially crafted violin for one of his larger, Astartes physique. An instrument which often gave his compositions their distinct styles and sounds. Now interred in a dreadnought body to match his physique in life, Gallus had a set of loudhailers installed to allow him to regale his brothers-in-arms with the music he so cherished in life and can no longer play. Whether they want him to, or not!

Had another lax week on painting. Just worked a bit on 3 more rotor cannon Marines to at least get the min squad of 5 done.

This time I honestly did have a pretty lax week on modeling. Just had some motivation issues. Though I did finish the three rotor cannons I started the week before, and did a bit of work on Stygian, the sibling to Tantabus, my second Sicaran Venator. The side sponsons are fully magnetized to either weapons, or to be removed entirely and covered.

However, last week was a bit of tongue in cheek. I was curious if anyone would comment. I did complete Ocellus, and left him in the background of the rotor cannon WIP picture, where he always was, except PAINTED!

Have a bit more of a center stage picture for him, and the rotor cannons. He is magnetized, with a kheres assault cannon and power fist with heavy flamer option, but I like the look of the plasma cannons.

I think I've said it before, but I really like the white bodies on the weapons. That's a really bold choice and gives a very striking look to the force. Well done!

And I thought I had just missed the post in which you mentioned it... I prefered the grey version.  No, it looks really cool.

Is the guy in the centre with the floating rotor cannon a conversion? The effect looks really convincing.

That's the sergeant. Finished him a bit ago. I pinned the gun to the belt of the Marine (you can just see the rod in the picture), then used a 40k heavy bolter ammo box and the same ammo belt from the rotor cannon.
