LordMcAllister's Weekly Paint 2017

Post by LordMcAllister » Tue Jan 03, 2017 5:36 pm

Wow, 2017 already... Feels like I didn't get around painting much during 2016. I'll try to get faster!
I painted my first Skitarii in order to settle for a painting scheme, aiming at something that can be painted faster than my Space Wolves. Therefore I decided to drybrush all silver metal parts and not to highlight them (except for characters). That should speed up the work on the standart units a lot! How do you like my current paintingscheme? I might stick to it.

Very nice painting scheme. If you want to spend more time on character models, you can always add some broidery.

I love the painting scheme! It's simple, but beautiful. I love the blue! As for painting, I think you should put more work into the characters as you are planning since they are centerpiece models that will get a lot of attention.

I love those blue robes, great highlights on the edges for a good effect with minimal work!

I like the color scheme as well. The only thing that seems out of place is the tan inside the robes. draws my eye too much to that spot. That may just be the purity seal though?

I like the wood on the gun stock. that came out very nice.

Thanks for the praise! I thought about sticking to the technique even for the characters, but I decided against it in order to make the characters stand out even more (just like Kovlovsky suggested). I absolutly prefer the look of highlighted metal over the look of drybrushed metal and only ditched it for the troops in order to handle big units faster.
Sperian wrote:I like the colour scheme a lot! My one suggestion would be to change the colour inside the robes to a deep red/maroon colour but that's really just a personal thing!
That is quite a cool suggestion. It would also add a tribute to their martian descent. But I believe the overall look would come out darker than I'm aiming for. Though I might add a bit of red to honour their descent... just where to put it? Perhaps I could paint a red rim around the coat? Or on one of the shoulderpads? Or the shoulderpads for everyone and the rim on the coat only for the alpha? Hmm... I'll give it some serious thought! Thanks!

Thanks! :) At first I wanted to go with pure white on the inside of the robes, but thought it might be a too extreme contrast. Therefore I'm quite happy with the tan inside the robes, though the wash doesn't really give me the effect I wanted to get. It's a bit to ,,gritty" for my taste, especially as it's supposed to be some kind of fiber. But I'll settle for it, as it's supposed to make everything quicker and most of the inside of the robes can't really be seen.

Agreed, that dark blue looks really nice, and contrasts well with the reddish brown of the cracked earth bases.

Thanks Munin and Guildenstern! :)

I finished two more Skitarii already. As they look very much like the first one, I don't think I'll post any pictures until the unit is finished. Anyway I bought some additional units for the army!

They are also in the box containing Belisarius Cawl. At least all the stats and nameing of the rules... I'm actually not quite sure if the special rules are explained in the box (though I believe they are). I'll check once I get home and update this post! ;)

I was actually able to get one of these "Battleforce"-boxes for AdMech last year. Quite a bargain!
