There is currently no space rats in the current 40k fluff. Hruds used to be space Skavens, but they were retconned into this:

So, I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. :(

nothing in specific, I just don't like them? I dunno, they just really don't appeal to me.

I think it's a valid point. Personally, the one thing I liked about them was the limo (and they ditched that  ).

Another faction I'd like to see in 40k is Space Lizardfolk, even if there is one already... Kind of (the Kroot).

These seem so perfectly placed for those who've been waiting for Space Dwarves to return for the last 20 years that it's almost embarrassing that GW have slapped them in AoS packaging.
Unfortunately, if this is the direction of Sigmar, I will not play. I want a decent classic fantasy game, not Steampunk Dwarves and Sigmarines. KOW, here I come...

You know those harpoon cannons they have on the ships would make awesome Ork Traktor Kannon Mek Gunz.

I really love the new dwarf models tho!

The idea of Steampunk Dwarves has, indeed, been part of many fantasy stories for quite some time (Warcraft, anyone?). And, as Kroll pointed out, the advancement of technology into the steam era has been part of WarHammer Fantasy for some time.

That you don't enjoy it is fair, you have every right to think that (heck, the focus on steampunk in Warmachine is one, of many, reason(s) I dislike that particular game). Just don't say it's it's a shocking new path that is only now driving you away. Sounds to me like you just want an excuse to dislike AoS more.

Nah, chalk it up to me entering my grumpy old man phase. This new faction is heavily steampunk, and I just prefer classic fantasy. It's not that I hate steampunk. For example, I really like Malifaux, and that has quite a bit of Steampunk flair, but that is a different fantasy world. I've never played Warcraft, or really seen it beyond a few adverts (shocking I know), so am not familiar with it.

As far as not wanting to like AOS, I really do like it. Otherwise I wouldn't have invested time and money trying to build up an army. I think the skirmish style system is pretty cool, and seems much less cumbersome than the classic WH Fantasy (I have not played a classic WHF game, just watched them being played). That said, the reason I wanted to get into AOS, is that i really missed classic fantasy. If GW is moving the lore outside that realm, to a more steampunk universe, then I will need to find another game.

YMMV,

Dwarfs have been steampunk forever. I mean they had friggin helicopters! That and beer powered pneumatic drills, a flame cannon which seemed to have some beer powered pressure system to it. This sort of builds on that, but it is not really new to fantasy. The background lore also had things like dwarf steam ships and even the chaos dwarf black kraken, the latter being almost more steampunk than these new dwarf things.

That is a waste of perfectly good beer  .

But yes, in Warhammer lore dwarves have been more known for their engineering skills (and some rune-magic), as opposed to the elves that are masters of magic.
