legacys #theweeklypaint 2016

Post by eGlegacy » Mon Feb 01, 2016 3:32 am

Hey to all you miniature-loving people,

as this is my first post in this forum, I want to do a quick introduction.
I'm 23 years old and live in Germany. My first contact with Warhammer was back in 2008 (I think?).
Since then I was more or less painting different miniatures of all kind of armies, because I had fun trying different things.
I painted an Eldar for one of my friends, a Grey Knight for the next and a Necron for another, just because it is fun for me to see paint all this different schemes and armors.
I collected many different miniatures over the years, Chaos, Dark Eldar, now Tau. Never played much, never painted much. Mainly because of the lack of time, otherwise because of the lack of motivation.
I even started a thread in a German Forum a year ago, but could'nt really get into it.

I think this is why #theweeklypaint got my attention. I want to to it now, and this is the kind of motivation I need.
So I hope I'll get it here with all you guys around ;)

Sooo now on to the important things:
I just ordered a new kompressor for my airbrush, should arrive around wednesday. Until then i'll try to find the fitting colors for my tau. I want to to something like Vior'la, just with more red and less white (because I hate to paint white..)
The Plan is to make a small Killteam at first.
I Think if a few Ghosts, 10 Firewarriors, 5 Pathfinders and a Crisis.
Let's see how all this works.

I think of something like this:
Image

And to show at least a few of my miniatures, I'll show you the ones I painted last, 2 Chaos Cultists and a half Sentinel :D

I still need a room to take good pictures >.<

So long, I'll really try to paint a Miniature each week.

Hey Viking 21,

thank you for your warm welcome!

Because I have late shift this week I can give you a small update.

I primed a Firewarrior and a Drone for testing purposes, nothing fency to show here, primer needs to dry.
But I found a Tyranid Ravager i primed a few months ago, so I started painting it.
Tried to airbrush the skin, but it is a pain to do it with my current kompressor...

Just gave it a quick basecoat and a first highlight. Also painted the basecoat of the tongue and the back.

Hey,
Viking 21 wrote:Looks good! I have never tried an airbrush. Seems like it would be very tricky to get small areas like that. Is there a specific kind of compressor that's needed for using an airbrush? Or is it like a standard one like would be in a garage?
It's not as hard as you think- you need to practice (as with everything) and your compressor needs to deliver a constant pressure.
So if you have a very standard 'DIY-Market-Compressor', you shouldn't have problems with this. But it's no fun to use such a compressor inside your home, because they make such a noise, that you almost have to wear ear muffs :D
My new compressor is relatively quiet- about 38db
Viking 21 wrote:Edit: I also really like your base on the ravenor.
Thank you very much! I'm curious how it will turn out when it's painted.

[Ravenor, of course. I'm not quite in the english names of the units  ]

Todays update pics- did a quick shade and a small highlight, to help stand out some of the details..
Also painted the purple areas with a basecoat.

I have to admit that I didn't paint all of them, because some were so horrible to reach, that I think they won't be seen at all.

Next up will be the further highlights of the green areas.

Very natural looking...reminds me of a rose for some reason.

Thank you :) I'll take this as a compliment, even if I'm not sure if Tyranids would like to be compared with flowers :D:D

Didn't have the time to paint today, but you'll get a sneak peak of the first two models i'll paint for my Tau.

Heyho,

today i managed to get the first basecoat onto my Tau Firewarrior Veteran, along with the first shade and a very light highlight.
Sadly my camera didn't manage to make this stand out, it almost looks like one color on the picture..

I also painted the next layer of highlights on the ravener, I'll try to take pictures when I'm back home.

So, as promised, the next layer of higlights on the ravener.

I also startet painting of the Claws, Mandibles, Spikes etc.. Man, there are so many of them.. :-/
It's just the first layer, not really well covering, I'll have to build the paint up through many different layers. But that's fine.
Just to give you an idead of how it should look like.

Viking 21 wrote:Just as a suggestion. Try painting another colour like a light brown or flesh type colour depending what you'd like to have a base of colour to tint the upper layers darker or lighter. [...]
Thank you very much :) In fact this is a mix of two light browns from vallejo!

Sadly I had no time for painting this weekend, I'll try to get an update ready by tomorrow.
On the other hand I had fun doing some assembly-work, my Tau "Battleforce" arrived.

I'll start by building up / painting the following:

2 Squads of Firewarriors (1 Strike / 1 Breacher)
3 Ghosts
3 Crisis
1 Commander
1 Ethereal
.. and a ton of drones :D

WIP Ravener

Okay, so here we go, the last update before I get to finish this.
Not a very good picture - I will add pictures of higher quality when I'm finished with this guy.

Sadly I had not much time this week. But I'll finish him tomorrow!

Next step here is to shade the whole claws once again to smooth out the blending. I think this will turn out just fine.
Until next time,
