Catachan [2000] points
Re: Catachan [2000] points
I also think they need to re-do plasma weapons. S6/7 with AP2/3 damage 1/2 I think would be fair. Right now, there is zero reason not to go plasma, unless you need to drop high wound single targets. Even then Plasma cost way less. Either that or make Meltas a flat 3 damage. with Assault 2. You can balance it by cost. Right now there is 0 reason Melta costs more.

Re: Catachan [2000] points
They're decent fast heavy weapon platforms and can help fill out the Fast attack slots, plus they don't die to a stiff breeze like Heavy weapon squads, but yes they certainpy need a buff.
Last edition Armored Sentinals were AV12, the same armor as a Chimera. I used to run one alongside my meltavets, have them blow up LandRaiders from their hatches, then have the sentinal Charge the Termies that fall out. Because it was a Walker only the Sargent eer had a chamce of scratching a Hullpoint off it so they'd end up stuck in close combat for multiple turns.
Bare in mind Guardsmen are rumored to go up by 1 point in the next FAQ as well, and other armies are getting stronger with each new codex (though only Eldar reaper spam and Index sisters are ahead of us in terms of "non-soup" lists).

I'd make the Plasmagun 10 points myself but I think it's actually more important that other weapons need to cost less. A meltagun should be 7 points, due to the range limitation.mrazek22 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 21, 2018 2:49 pmI also think they need to re-do plasma weapons. S6/7 with AP2/3 damage 1/2 I think would be fair. Also depending on your group, you may be restricted to 3 detachments for 2k lists as suggested by the rulebook.

Only the infantry squads, which sucks that we're being punished because of Soup-WAAC players, but it really wouldn't be that much of a difference. Guardsmen are like just under a third of what a Marine costs right now, and have a higher damage output with cheaper weapons and buffs.
We have the best Troop choices in the entire game by a good margin. 60 bodies for 240 points. You could only get ten Intercessors for that.
Re: Catachan [2000] points
Company Commanders need to go up in points for the utility they bring. That's where the majority of the strength of guard lies and it's almost impossible to take them out without snipers and your opponent making a big mistake.

Re: Catachan [2000] points
I bring 4 and would take another if I didn't need a Tank Commander. I like to stick 'em next to a Medic and Ogryn Bodyguard.
Also I've found snipers, even the Assassin one, to be somewhere between dissapointing and incredibly worthless. They either don't do enough damage to kill the weakest characters or they're AP0.
Re: Catachan [2000] points
I think I have 3 in my mech list too since they each order either an infantry or veteran squad.
Re: Catachan [2000] points
Thing about the Sniper assassin is that AP0 doesn't matter. They wound on 2s, it's in their profile. All Infantry targeted gets hit on 2s and wounded on 2s. I took out my opponents Chaos lord second turn with one. He's pretty BAMF for the points.

Re: Catachan [2000] points
With AP0 I was more reffering to Ratlings, Scouts and Tau drones. The Vindicare is indeed AP-3, but only D3 damage.
A company commander has 4 wounds, so to take one out the Vindicare would have to shoot them for two turns.
Re: Catachan [2000] points
And that's assuming your opponent made such a sloppy mistake to leave his company commander in the open when he knows his opponent has snipers.
Re: Catachan [2000] points
Got him down to 3 on the deployment with preliminary bombardment, and then the sniper got a 6 on damage the second round, ranged him across the board.

Re: Catachan [2000] points
Btw with regards to Straken, he will be Strength 7 with the Catachan doctrine but if you're planning on having him in close combat I'd give him the blade of conquest for S9 AP-4 D3 attacks. You just charge at a squad of Terminators and poof, no more Termies! Like 300 points gone just like that.
He's also an infantry unit and so can order himself to fight again, don't forget that.

Assuming folks take terminators these days.
He needs to try that against a giant pack of death company.

Re: Catachan [2000] points
He's WS2+, he'll be wounding them on 2's and they'll get no armor save at all.
Drop the Laurels for a deathmask, he'll have a 2++ save. Heck, get the Ogryn bodyguards to run alongside him and soak up all the damage.
