Hunting monstrous creatures and elite units could be handled more reliably by plasmaguns, lascannons, and maybe hot shot lasguns. Killing vehicles is best left to melta weapons, lascannons, krak missiles, and the vanquisher. And going up against infantry and hordes can be left to any blast and large blast weapon regardless of the strength and AP.
Yes, your right, especially with the new armorbane orders (bring it down). Ill obviously adapt to use the new codex more fluidly. I play with a rather small group of friends (about six regular players), and many of them use space marine variants or chaos, so the plasma tanks helped out very well with terminators and other 2+ armored units. I do pack a vanquisher to tackle vehicles.

The biggest problem I'm having is jamming as much utility as I can into a 1000/1500 point list. It's not going so well.

Heh, unfortunately that's too much of a scope for me right now. I already got a bunch of guys to put together and paint.

I'm really loving this codex, despite some characters being cut. The executioner is not that bad really, for the points you used to get an executioner with plasma sponsons you can now get one with plasma sponsons and a primaris psyker for the same points cost. Just give him the primaris power and you can have an entire squadron of executioners re-rolling gets hot and scatter and still be much cheaper off than before.

I do lament platoons no longer arriving collectively from reserves though (at least not to my knowledge). But overall the points adjustment to most units was pretty fair imo.

Little upsetting Straken was increased by 40ish points but he is still my favourite. ^_^

Also flipping through the dex earlier and I am loving it!

Straken is not as feasible as he was , costs more, and HAS to challenge or accept. That is always very bad, even with his stats. Might as well go for a Yarrick with Power Klaw.

I'm personally most excited by the Orders and Tank Commander, I can't wait to convert up a Leman Russ for the Dark Gods!

Well with all the armies at my local club, always challenging is a better option as most characters are either really slow and tough, or fast and weak. Perfect for a straken!

Plus if Straken really needs to, he can use Smash attacks to squish anyone he faces!

Sometimes that's all you need. Especially when you make someone with 4 wounds go bye-bye.
