Militarium Tempestus Formations

Post by general-metcalf » Sun Apr 06, 2014 6:44 pm

I don't have the codex at hand right now until next Tuesday so I was just wondering for all those who do with the new formations can they be taken on their own as an army in themselves

Provided it fits the point requirements for your opponent, yes. Is there a FOC chart in there somewhere?

I wouldn't recommend it. Use them as allies because these guys aren't very competitive. At all really.

I just wanted to go for a themed army mostly, want to try something different rather than competitive all the time

Do they follow the same ally matrix as imperial guard?

I've finally got the codex and the formations need to be allied to a primary detachment but you can still have an army of Militarium Tempestus I just think you'll have to follow the FOC for every other army 1 HQ and 2 Troops minimum

The biggest downside I see to Militarium is lack of choices, it seems like it'd be a better way of running Scions for a Imperial (Astra) Guard army though. Correct me if I'm wrong General, but I heard that there an order that gives Hot-shot lasguns the Sniper special rule, as well as many other glorious orders and a Warlord trait that actually bumps up the range of their guns. If these things are true, I may have to break down and run my Scions as an ally Militarium detachment.

I could rant about how I feel this is like 'on-disc DLC' for the Astra, but I'll spare you guys. :P

oh yeah most of the new orders for the militarium are really useful and there is an order where it gives them the sniper rule and pinning...plus many more ;) im planning to run the formation with 4 valkyires alongside an imperial guard primary detachment, just have to wait to get the new codex to see what that is

That's a really snazzy looking vehicle, and it doesn't have the funky double-treads! :P
What's it from?

And that is interesting, but accounting for upgrades and what not that does make sense. After all just one doctrine bumped Veterans up to 10 points a man. The Tarox Prime is really nice too, and fits perfectly for Scions who need to get down-range quickly. Only thing I wish for is the ability to take Medics in standard Scion squads for that little extra durability against small arms, because being Human they do fall over pretty quickly despite all their fancy gear. Still guess I'm going to have to cave in and get this codex at some point! Sniper-Hot Shots is too good to pass up, from the sounds of it these guys don't really need any special weapon, they just need Orders!
