These WIP's Don't Lie - BigAxeGod's Weekly Paint

Post by BigAxeGod » Tue Jul 14, 2015 9:43 am

Hey everyone.

I'm not a super frequent poster and I'm an even less frequent painter, so I figured starting up this thread would motivate me to get some stuff painted, and hopefully learn some new techniques along the way.

I've been buying miniatures for years but have really only started painting in the last 6 months so I've still got a lot to learn.

...also I have trouble staying focused on a single project, so prepare for a lot of completely unconnected posts.

TLDR:

For the time being at least I will be posting my KHORNE DAEMONKIN, FLESH TEARERS, STORMCAST ETERNALS and CARNIVAL OF CHAOS, but be prepared to see Tyranids, Ogres and Dark Angels in the future as I work through a pretty huge backlog of unpainted stuff.

Welcome to the Weekly Paint! I jump all over the place like that too, my backlog includes almost everything and I've got a bit of a miniature addiction... so I can feel your pain.

Looking forward to seeing your stuff!

Thanks so much.

Just been trying to work out how to upload images, think I've got it now.

Here's the tester model for my Flesh Tearers:

I'm still trying to get together a decent photo-setup.

Also I still need to do a few clean-ups on this guy but you get the picture.

Hiyas and Welcome! Looking good so far, I'd try a direct light source on your models to brighten them and bring out the detail :)

Thanks for the advise. I really need to pick up a pose-able desk-lamp.

Yup, they work great in general. I have a travel Ott Lite that I bring on vacation or around the house with me.

just looked it up, looks crazy efficient. I might go down to my local hardware store tomorrow and pick up a couple of LED strips.

Well I was hoping to post my first Bloodletter today but it's too dark now and as mentioned before my light sources are pretty inept.

So for now here's an old one of my Carnival's Brute (obligatory Nurgle Lord [tick]) and a couple of plague bearers (sadly the same standard of photography as earlier):

Been busy at GW today, managed to complete the first of my possessed (aside from basing).

Also picked up some LED's from the hardware place. Still not entirely happy but I think it's an improvement at least.

Without further adieu:

My first Khorne Possessed (obviously using the new Blood Warriors from AOS):

And my tester model for my Bloodletters (not entirely happy with him yet [also sword is obviously not finished]):

And the group shot:

And finally a slightly better pic of that Termie from yesterday:

As always advice is encouraged :) Hope you guys likey.

Thanks so much. Again I'm a little annoyed with the lighting but I think he's turned out well.

I've tried doing a flesh-tearers logo on the black shoulder pad before, but alas my painting isn't quite up to scratch for such precision just yet. I'll try again when I'm a little more practiced.

I think your light source may be the problem, as it's casting shadows on the front of the mini. It's good to keep an overhead source, I think having a light source straight on is a good idea too.

I love the dark red you are using for your Khorne units and the idea of painting the Bloodletter's face bone white was very good. I really like how it looks. Your terminator is gorgeous as well.

Thanks Kovlovsky. It's just typical Khorne Red washed down with nuln oil. And I'm not entirely happy with the Bloodletters face yet. But yeah I though it was a bit of a different route to go down, I don't like the typically bright red GW bloodletters.

Ok sorry for spamming the same boring minis.

Here's the same light sources, but this time obscured by tissue paper:

Possessed:

And a Death Company Dread that I painted up last week (minus basing):

I think that's the best I'm gonna be able to get for now.
