Zipding's #theweeklypaint

Post by Zipding » Sat Jan 31, 2015 11:51 am

I'm going to try this again, it didn't work so well last year, but hopefully it will work better this year now that I have an idea of what my school workload is.

My goal this year is simple: Paint up my Warhammer Fantasy armies since I want to start an End Times campaign with my girlfriend. The main focus this year will be my Vampire Counts with some Skaven splash. Sorry Lizardmen, I really like your army, but you don't show up until book 4, and that won't be for a while.

So, without further ado, what I need to paint for these armies and progress:

Vampires
3 skeleton warriors DONE!
20 crypt ghouls DONE!
Corpse Cart DONE!
10 Grave Guard DONE!
4 Skeletal Steeds DONE!
3 Hexwraiths DONE!
Krell, Lord of Undeath DONE!
Konrad von Carstein DONE!
Ghoul King on foot (assembled, but not on base)
Terrogheist DONE!

Skaven:
20 Plague Monks DONE!
20 Stormvermin DONE!
1 Skaven Warlord DONE!
1 Warp Lightning Cannon (frame done)
1 Doomwheel (in sub assemblies, unprimed

Lizardmen:
2 Jungle Swarms (2 snakes per base are basecoated)
1 Skink Priest DONE!

I'll update hopefully more often than I did last year and post more pics.

I've gotten some painting done the past few days, and I will post pics later tonight.

Among these will also be pics of models that I've painted since starting school and a couple that I just really like, like Vlad, who I painted last year.

All right, time for some pics.

Aside from Vlad, these are all models that I have completed since I started university in September. Vlad was completed sometime around February last year.

I apologize if the pics are huge.

Image

Gonna start with the Bastiladon. This was a big project that I completed sometime mid September.

Image

Image

Next is the Warlock Engineer I finished a couple of weeks ago.

Image

And the Warlord I finished late last year.

Image

The two chilling together.

Image

My Poison Wind Mortar

Image

And Warpfire Thrower

Image

Both my Weapon Teams

Image

My Cairn Wraith that I accidentally bought thinking it was a Necromancer

Image

And a close up

Image

Skellies.

Image

Image

Finally we're onto WIP stuff, Crypt Ghouls. They've got the first base coat on them done.

Image

Image

Image

And finally, the model that I really want to showcase, Vlad von Carstein.

Hope you like these, I'll update the top list when this is up.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still working on the ghouls and I've gotten the basecoats and wash done, so they shouldn't take much longer.

When I've finished them, my next project is the Corpse Cart, I want to finish painting up my Vampire Counts for the End Times.

I actually found an easy way to paint eyes. I would show it, but I don't really have models with me to demonstrate. I'll be ordering a Terrorgheist and Ghoul King late next week, and I might be able to paint up the Ghoul King and show it.

I might do a video tutorial and post it here if I get models.

The trick is to paint the eyes the color you want for the iris, then dot each side white. Kind of reverse.

I actually paint my eyes early on when I'm working on the face so I don't ruin that paint job as I work on the tiny spots for the eyes.

I'll do a video tutorial when I get the time for it when I paint the Strigoi Ghoul King.

FWIW, this is how I originally learned to paint eyes, though when I first started painting, I'd paint the pupil as a vertical stroke through the middle of the eye (I used to be quite shaky and this was easier than a dot) and then closed in the eye with skin tone like the rest of the tutorial.

Yeah, that's how I painted the eyes on Vlad. The Skink and Saurus eyes are large enough that I don't need to do something like that. My Rat Ogres eyes were painted the same way as the Skinks and Saurus because their eyes are also larger than human sized models.

Sorry I haven't really been updating recently, I've been slowly working on my ghouls.

They've got a wash and general basecoats done with half of them with the next coat for their skin. Hopefully, I'll finish them this weekend and pics will happen.
