Re: Epic Duck Mike's #theweeklypaint 2015
The Steam Controller has a bit of a learning curve, but it also is *ridiculously* configurable... I mean, I can't even describe how much you can customize how it works. I played Borderlands TPS for about two hours last night through the Steam Link using a Steam Controller, and by the end of it I was probably about halfway between how poorly I would aim with a typical dualstick controller and how well I aim with a keyboard/mouse setup.
The biggest issue was that I was sitting so much further away from the TV that details were smaller so aiming was more difficult, despite being on a 52" TV instead of a 21" monitor. Because Steam Link still runs the game natively on your PC as well, I was limited to the resolution of my monitor (1680x1050 or so) rather than hitting full 1080p... which is mostly a good reason to upgrade my monitor if anything. It is pretty old.
So here's the caveat... I've been using the Steam Link over Wifi... they recommend using a wired connection. but there isn't one present by my TV right now. And that wasn't an issue at all - no dropped frames or lag that I could notice... but after about 2 hours, the Steam Link just dropped off my network, and then not only couldn't find my Wifi network, but any networks at all (and it was picking up about 12 in my neighbourhood before that). Like, the Wifi driver just stopped or something. I haven't looked into why yet.

Re: Epic Duck Mike's #theweeklypaint 2015
I've got a 27" Mac and Monitor, so either way I'm probably good. I've also got a 60" TV, because spoiled. It's also wired in, so I'm good there too.
Dropping connection and not being able to find it again...that sounds like bad news. I'm assuming you did all the silly stuff, like restarting it? Powering it down for a while (unplugged) then starting it up again? Is it possible to hook it up to Ethernet, then checking via an extra monitor to see if there are any updates yet?

Re: Epic Duck Mike's #theweeklypaint 2015
I actually haven't done any of the silly stuff yet - it dropped out at like 11pm so I only spent maybe 15 seconds troubleshooting it and then decided to go to bed lol
It did a firmware update right on the first boot, I didn't expect there'd be a new one between 8pm and 11pm
I probably won't get to tweak with it again until the weekend, I'll report back then.

Re: Epic Duck Mike's #theweeklypaint 2015
So I went off the radar for a few days there. I managed to get my hands on Betrayal of Calth a few days ahead of schedule, and began assembling and painting like crazy. I'm *still* editing and releasing the painting tutorials from this push, I've got 3-4 left to go that I've already filmed and lots more yet to film afterwards.
It was a rush getting these early and getting a painting tutorial up on launch day
It hasn't got quite as many views on YouTube as I was expecting, but the quick "Contemptor Dreadnought Magnetizing" video I threw out is doing very well.
Pushed out another Frostgrave batrep yesterday as well, and filming two more with Ash tomorrow.
Word Bearer!

Awesome work as always! Are you going to play FW 30k with them as well?

Yeah, eventually - I'll be painting 16 Tac Marines in each of the Legion colours, then painting everything else as Salamanders. It's going to be a while
