Yes they are.

I forgot to mention, I made the bamboo out of toothpicks and kabob skewers. I still need to put some more paint on them, but are they convincing?

Yeah, absolutely. They fit just right. The only thing that may be difficult is to make them appear to be hollow, but most people won't see it anyway.

I can't count the number of games and models Dez has forced me into. I blame it all on him.

While they need something to make them less new looking the bamboo is VERY convincing.

bamboo - definitely works!

someone on dakka forums did a standing grove style bamboo with coffee stirrers cut at an angle (like the leaves/bits that hang down) also very very convincing

Only other thing, I read somewhere - here, dakka, underempire?! I forget! - that a little touch of wash under the ridges every so often looks good. Mimics the darker part of the growth rings (I think those are growth rings) Argh, anyway I hope that makes sense. Funny how the simplest concepts are the hardest to put into words!

I was starting to get worried. .. The clutch accidental or on purpose?

It was a surprise, but one of the most rewarding things I've done in my life. I've been totally distracted by it. I just sit for hours and hours watching and interacting with them.

I'm still alive :)

My birdy babies are pretty much grown now, and don't want much to do with me. I haven't played video games in several days. I have been busy with some things:

Building The Kin for Malifaux Gremlins
Building some Tanks to play Bolt Action...but at Flames of War scale!

I'm going to have to look into getting more cool stowage :)
