Wizard's Hills GB59 - COMPLETE

Post by wizardv12222 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 3:13 pm

Decided to throw in for this month. I'm not sure I'll have enough time to finish, as I found out I'm travelling for work the whole last week of October. But I'll give it my best shot

Nice start.

Looks pretty big. You gonna do all of the hills for this GB?

Well missed my D&D game, all my players got sick or had sick kids :(

But did manage to work on the hills tonight, got the plaster sanded, cleaned up, and then graveled. Let it dry overnight, then I'll do another layer of glue over top of everything, then it should be ready for paint.

Well managed to seal all the gravel this morning, let it dry and then base coated everything in black.

My hope is to have everything painted up tomorrow, so that the hills would be available for a game on Sunday.

In between watching college football this morning, I added a 2nd layer of black basecoat and just finished off the first layer of color.

Here it is so far... letting paint dry a bit before I start the next round.

Ok, here is an update, after another layer of browns and greens and then a highlight of light brown. Now I basecoated the rock formations grey and the water features blue.

Image

Back to waiting for the paint to dry completely and then I'll continue with the rocks, but it is looking ok so far.

Wiz, how do you apply the second coat of glue before painting? I've tried making my own spray on solution but it clogs the sprayer after one use.

I stole the idea from Terranscapes, basically you mix the pva to water, more water than glue, in a cup.

In the spray bottle I have nothing but water. I spray the terrain down to get it wet, and then apply the glue/water mix.

With wet terrain, the glue flows easily and holds everything down. Just takes forever to dry

I couldn't find the link to his video, but if I find it later I'll post the link.

Well no wonder I couldn't find it, it was actually Rubbish in Rubbish out (Knights of Dice) who did I stole it from. So many great terrain guys out there.

Ok, well I did manage to finish the hills! I need to let the glue dry on the greenery, and then seal it, but that's just finishing.

Based on the recommendations from last month's build, I gloss coated the water parts.

I'll get some better pictures up tomorrow but let me know if you guys have any last minute suggestions.
