Warmachine Machinations League: Umbra

Post by Badger » Wed Feb 06, 2013 8:54 pm

"Something bizarre is occurring across western Immoren. A new and unseen threat is on the rise—someone or something that will alter the wars of the Iron Kingdoms forever. The effects are being felt all across the land, whether it be the sudden disappearance of an entire village’s population, unnatural seismic catastrophes, or any number of other unexplainable phenomena.

Who or what is behind this? Gather your army and face your foes at the sites of these strange anomalies. The truth must be discovered."

Starting on Wednesday February 27th, The MiniWarGaming club will be starting this year's League event, Machinations! All the rules and league cards can be found here. Each of the 4 seasons of the league (the first being Umbra) will be $5 to enter, and at the end of each season the winner will recieve a prize (TBD)! If you want to play, just come by the club and see me, and I'll sign you up!

For the league, because I'm out of touch with Warmachine for a long time, How many games would you need to play to be effective in the League? I can't get out often enough as I would like but probably could play every 2 weeks after convincing my wife to let me that is lol. I came in 2nd in a league 6 years ago but it was really from the amount of game I played.
Warhammer 40K - 41,000 points
Warhammer Fantasy - 27000 wounds (I'm guessing)
Flames of War - 6000 points
Warmachine Cryx - 100 points
Hordes Circle - 240 points

With the amount some of the locals are at the club you may find it hard to keep up with the top scorers. There are painting aspects as well where you can potentially score a lot of points. The scoring rules are definitely designed to favour playing lots of games though.

You probably wouldn't be able to win the league, but you'd still get your participation patch, and every single game helps move the story forward in the big picture. :)

After reading through it all, I like it. I am in, probably won't win but it looks like fun to me.

I've played in two journeyman leagues at MWG. In the first, I won 2/3 badges. In the second, I won 0 badges. In both, I had the same amount of fun, which is to say a lot. ;)

I'm all for fun. I just don't like it when one person plays like 200 games and the next person is at 100 and the 200 wins just because they played more games etc... Long story but I have seen it.

Also, does it start on the Wednesday or the 28th (It's a Thursday)?

I just read the rules for Umbra, you only score game points for the first 5 games. After that it's no points.

Small little detail you missed there. The Machinations core rules say the first five games of each week can score points, with any extra played during the week not earning points.

Even if you only get 15 or so points together for Wednesday, there will be folks to play with and I'm sure you'll have a great time! Then you'll have incentive to finish putting everything together for the rest of the weeks.
