Why not use a place board? Just get some masking tape, lay a piece or two across the length of it (particle board, i.e. a clip board with the clip removed), and then tape it down width wise. This way you have a place to hold the models to (the masking tape can be re-used where the bases covered it up), and keeps your hands paint free...barring a fudged grip on an airbrush.
